Elon Musk, Tech Titan, or Drama Queen?

In a Tweet How Do You Sum up the Twitter Elon Musk Drama

It’s a business decision, more than free speech

Nothing should surprise you anymore when it comes to Elon Musk, he is a clout chaser. Does a day go by without a tweet from Elon Musk?

Today, the deal is on (again!) The on-and-off Twitter deal worth $44 Billion is now reported to be going forward, but the Twitter board will not withdraw their case against the multi-billionaire unless they see the cash.

This is what he tweeted on October 5, 2022.

Buying Twitter is an accelerant to creating X, the everything app.

Nobody knows what goes on in the mind of Elon Musk, there must be a lot of voices inside his head, and not every time they are in agreement, I get that.

Believe me, I know what that is like, but I’m not a billionaire.

I’m a writer.

Elon Musk’s TESLA is a publicly traded company, and his actions can affect its market value. Yet it never stopped Elon from issuing controversial statements and his favorite place to find an audience is Twitter.

Twitter, the digital town square

I am on Twitter, and today I use it regularly to know what people are talking about. I find trending topics that can be made into a $1,000 story, yes it happened to me.

I was on Twitter the same year I was on Facebook. There is a big difference between who I am on Twitter and Facebook.

Real-time conversation on Twitter allows me to jump in with my thoughts unlike on Facebook where I have friends who I need to think about whenever I post an opinion — some of them think they are rants.

But on Twitter, any stranger can see my tweet and accuse me of anything, even stupidity, like when I wrote about Woody Allen. I never knew he still has a lot of people under his spell.

Without Twitter, it will be hard for me to keep up with the Kardashians. Ok, with anything about the lives of celebrities and scandals, some of which end up as inspiration for my stories.

Elon Musk thinks Twitter is a digital town square and to some degree, I agree.

The sheer number of opinions and conversations that go on with the social media platform every day makes it a lot different from Facebook and Instagram.

But Twitter and Facebook are also places where bad actors operate from scams, to hate speech and disinformation.

So, while Elon Musk says he is for free speech, we all know the dangers of social media when it becomes a free-for-all space.

Twitter deal

From the Associated Press,

The tumultuous saga of Elon Musk’s on-again off-again purchase of Twitter took a turn toward a conclusion Tuesday after the mercurial Tesla CEO proposed to buy the company at the originally agreed-on price of $44 billion.

Musk made the surprising turnaround not on Twitter, as has been his custom, but in a letter to Twitter that the company disclosed in a filing Tuesday with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. It came less than two weeks before a trial between the two parties is scheduled to start in Delaware.

In response, Twitter said it intends to close the transaction at $54.20 per share after receiving the letter from Musk. But the company stopped short of saying it’s dropping its lawsuit against the billionaire Tesla CEO. Experts said that makes sense given the contentious relationship and lack of trust between the two parties. — Excerpt, Deal back on? Elon Musk gets closer to buying Twitter

Of course, what happens tomorrow is anybody’s guess.

During the last six months, since the offer to buy by Musk became public, it hurt a lot of people many of whom are just regular guys.

Twitter stopped hiring; how can the company hire when even the CEO doesn’t know if he has a job once the deal is a done deal.

The drama only benefited Elon Musk, like anything in real life it is always the one carrying the purse who has the last say.

Final words

I wrote this when Elon Musk decided to ‘pause’ the Twitter deal,

Elon Musk is a tech titan, but he is also a performer. Twitter is his biggest gamble yet, what he does with the social media platform could have as much impact as the electric cars Tesla produces.

Will he be the forebearer of free speech, but before that, he needs to sign the $44 billion check or walk away from the hostile takeover deal that he initiated. — Excerpt, Elon Musk Has Paused His Twitter Deal

Who knows what Elon Musk can do with Twitter, will he turn it into a super app that could surprise even his biggest critics?

He once said that Twitter can be the backbone for a We Chat app clone that he envisions once he gets hold of the social media platform.

Or Twitter could remain his playground, from his childlike rants, sexist, misogynist tweets, and fights with billionaires like Bill Gates, to casting doubts on the integrity of mainstream media and journalists.

What will not change is his Twitter minions can’t get enough of his ‘genius’ that they always give him the thumbs up.
