How to Double Your Money on Medium, and It Works All the Time
You have the secret money sauce, use it.
My goal this month is to breach the $100 Medium Partner Program Earnings. At the same time, my April 2021 earnings were a complete shock after I was gifted with the $500 writing bonus. I still couldn’t break the $100 mark, which is my money goal if I want to up my Medium game and be among its top superstars.
OK, I got carried away.
But if it can happen to Shannon Ashley, why can’t it happen to you and me?
Every morning I check on my earnings. I am sure this month will be the “happy money month.”
And before, I would feel sad whenever I see $0.01 on my Medium Partner Program dashboard earnings for any article. Now I see that as another cent to my bank account. I have changed the way I view money, that I no longer coming from want but in abundance. I practice the Arigato in, Arigato out money technique, from the book of Ken Honda — Happy Money: The Japanese Art of Making Peace with Your Money.
How to Double Your Money on Medium
Let’s talk money. You got here because, like me, you also want to be rewarded by the Medium Partner Program. Who doesn’t? The truth of the matter, I want to be in the top tier of Medium writers. The money I can earn here will change the future I am planning, and besides, not because we are writers, we should be struggling with money, Right?
Here is the “not so” secret money sauce in making money online, or for us Medium writers, making money on the Medium Partner Program.
The simple money sauce is internal links and not just any links. You have to link back to a story you already wrote in the past.
I talked about the Arigato Money Technique because I wrote another story about it a few days ago. Not because I recycle my stories but because my DAD gave me an Arigato Your Money In and Out coffee mug, and ever since he gave me the “money coffee mug,” money keeps coming in, and I have been spending the money with gratitude.
So in the new story, I linked back to my old story — Attract More Money With the Powerful Arigato Money Technique, and from my Medium Partner Program Dashboard, the old story has earned me a new $0.01.
Arigato money!
By simply linking back to a story I already wrote, I doubled my money on Medium.
Arigato, internal links.
What Are Internal Links? — Brian Dean
Internal links are hyperlinks that point to pages on the same domain. These are different than external links, which link out to pages on other domains.
I call it self-love.
Remember, Medium has a very high (DA) domain authority rank, and Google loves websites with a very high (DA).
Why do we need to get some Google love?
Because according to SimilarWeb, 65.11% of Medium’s traffic comes from search.
If you think that doesn't necessarily mean getting into the Medium paying members, and I agree.
Yet with the help of Google search, we can reach paying Medium members, especially those who are not following us on Medium.
Medium Search — The Mysterious Algorithm
And while I am not privy to how the Medium algorithm works, it must be using the same principle as every search engine out there.
Not only does Medium recognize the internal links as its own. It also provides instruction on identifying related stories, like how Tim Denning’s stories mostly center on entrepreneurship and personal development.
Medium is still growing, a work in progress.
But as it moves to be a more relational Medium, it works behind the scenes to group stories together and related content.
For example, If you are looking for how to Make Your Computer Faster, Google will recommend a web page that gives you the answer — With This Fast Computer Solution. Once you are on Medium, where Google finds the article, you can find related stories that you may be interested in, like a story about Dual Monitor Setup or Why you should not buy a second monitor in 2021.
Medium loves Medium
If you look closely at this screenshot, all three stories are similar. It talks about racism, and if Medium tries to group related articles, isn’t it best practice as a Medium writer if you do the same?

I know it sounds narcissistic, but Medium isn't alone. Google loves Google; that is why if you examine the Google SERP (search engine results), YouTube videos are on top of the page because Google owns YouTube.
Best Practices in using Internal Links
- You don’t overdo it and stuff your stories with links that make your stories less readable.
- It is best to group your stories, something I need to work on myself. The best example is my stories on Medium curation or what we Medium writers aspire for our stories, to be Chosen For Further Distribution. I have two other stories about Medium curation, and I always link back to the original story, which piques my interest in what is going on with Medium curation.
- Always use the proper anchor text in your internal links, not because you can use any URL or hyperlink, that anchor text can be anything, Google doesn't like that. I am sure Medium will not like that either. Anchor text is the visible portion of the link for visitors. In the SEO world, it describes the page the link is pointing at. — @Moz.com
Double Your Money — The Secret to Making Money on the Medium Partner Program
Before, I find it embarrassing whenever I have stories that earn me $0.01. Today I love every one cent story.
Not only does each cent make me closer to achieving my money goals on Medium, but now I am on track to breach the $100 mark this month or even more.
My Medium Partner Program earnings will more than double because of a simple trick that any Medium writer can use or copy.
A Medium SEO hack that even Medium would love, as Sally Field “said,” (Actually, she didn’t say this:)
You like me! You really like me!”
And to get Medium’s attention, it needs to know that you love it back, and the way you love it back is by using internal links.
And then, Medium will reward you by doubling the money as your old articles will start making you new money.
