Hallo all! I'am A Shayens Abran owner of Be Open publication! Many of you would recognize about a month ago I have posted an announcement that Be Open publication needs Editors!

We have 2 additional Editors: Tijjani Jibril and Karen Falcon that will help Be Open reviewing your submissions :-)

You can find the full editors' list in this post. If you feel that you have ever sent application to become Be Open editor, but don't find your name in the list, you can private note me to clarify as I might have missed your application unintentionally! :-)

We have just been on this platform for less than 6 months, however there have been hundreds pieces already published here; from poems, fictions, personal stories to deep analyzed articles that mostly related to "openness". Yes, openness has made this publication feels inclusive. There’s just something special about this our new community, Be Open!

The terms of open up, be open to, open about, etc, have really driven some writers to join us and posts honest pieces from their own perspective which makes those stories are so interesting to read.

Thank you all our writers, followers and readers! :-)

Why I need editors

This my writings can become reference for our Editors about what kind of stories that will match with Be Open's spirit. The clear list can be found in our submission guidelines;

When I started Be Open, it began as my desperation in delivering my ideas as oftentimes my pieces got rejected due to not meet the publications standardizations (that was actually my fault submitting them to “serious” publications that of course tend to prioritize the high quality, deep and thoughtful writings. I was too confident since they accepted me as their writer then).

However, from that point, I wished to have a space where the rules didn’t matter all that much because every individual will need a place that can accommodate their love for writing. I believe every piece has meaning even though it written plainly. I decided to accept stories about writing and blogging too, so we can learn together.

I wanted a safe space for new budding writers to play with their raw imaginations, express them whatever the level of writing skill they have. Also I'm wanting this place opening as many as portals for new knowledge to share. Everyone has their own prowess that may be beneficial for others.

I also intend this pub as a place where writers of all genders, colors, culture, sex orientation, nationalities, religion, belief and otherwise could come together through words and the love of expressing their original thoughts.

Yes, in Be Open we can blend together where the lovers of writings can helping each other to grow. I feel so honored to get some big name writers who have great expertize in their area have been willingly joining us and sharing their well written pieces and ideas. I personally take the advantage to learn from their high quality posts.

Honestly, at the first I decided to do something (create this publication), it’s so strange in my life when letting other people (writers with their submissions) come into my life that I could never have imagined interacting with, even if it’s via the internet. I'm always the person with so much things to consider when I have to make a relationship.

But finally I am here because I made that one decision for myself, and that is to write (besides the urgen need for earning some bucks from it ;). And after some time awkwardness and learning, I quite enjoy this new activity. I’m still amazed each time getting new writers interested to join or open the story submission page and finding a list of new stories waiting for me to review.

Since created, I have a picture of Be Open’s key activities, besides will accommodate our writers’s stories, it will be sharing the progress of our publication and also offering daily curation stories.

I really love doing curation (it seems my Aspergers' trait has its influence in this behaviour! :-) I enjoy it the way I search any interesting stories and bundle them in “Our Best Discovery” section in specific numbers (Aspergers are very interested in number and categorizing something). Also, I have created regularly "Be Open Golden Stories" and "Be Open Platinum Stories" which are selected stories specifically made by Be Open's writers.

Yes, I truly enjoy any aspects of it. Maintain my personal Medium blog as at a time managing this publication. I write, I edit, do curation, handle submission, etc.

But as the publication grows, sometimes I’ve been a bit underwater in keeping all to run well. There are times I need some own moments or time for doing chores. Or there re times I want pouring out any ideas for my Medium personal blog while at the same time I have responsibility to focus on this pub (as Aspie, I can't focus more than one or two projects/activities at a time).

Eventually, I realized that my physique, my brain and my time can’t always afford it.

And also, as I see thar Be Open need stepping a next phase of its journey regarding to our curation; I want the curation stories in Be Open publication to be deeper, not only showing list of selected stories which couldn’t be done maximally if I did it myself. You will find detaily the curating duties of our editors in the next link at the bottom.

And with those consideration, last month, I decided to seek for editors to help me handle this pub, delegate responsibilities in keeping this whole things run in good rhythm, and to always make the writers (and readers) feel encouraged, growing, learning and moving together.

I tried to be honest that the volunteer editor tasks in Be Open publication may be a little different compared with other Medium publications. With the key's activities above, our editors will do editing plus doing curation. And, surprisingly, once released, several writers have been eagerly showing their interest to contribute as Be Open editor! They reach out me through email, in the comment section or via private notes.

Thank you so much all applicants. I appreciate your desire to make contribution to our Be Open publication as editor (+curator)! :-)

And after some consideration, I have chosen several of them. Without further ado, Now, I’m pleased to release the list of accepted volunteer editors for the next 6 months (from August, 2021 to January, 2022)!
