I’m Completely Baffled By SINKS in Malaysia!
Why is it so random?

If you have read my stories about Malaysia, you’ll recall that there are things that really baffle me. As a person who has lived in Canada all her life, some seemingly normal things are quite strange to me.
In Malaysia, I have seen takeout drinks in a bag, geckos, bathing with buckets, and squat toilets. I thought nothing else could really surprise me. Of course, I’m wrong. There are still new things I discover every time I go to Malaysia.
So here’s the next “seemingly normal” thing that has me confused.
Yea. Sinks.
In the photo I posted above, there is a random sink at a restaurant. I totally get why it’s there and it makes perfect sense. After you eat, it’s a good habit to wash your hands and clean up. But in Canada, there are no sinks like that. If you want to wash your hands, you’d go to the restroom and use the sink there. There are no random sinks!
I was surprised the first time seeing it. People were just going there and washing up. Of course, I got used to it quickly. I haven’t used it myself though. I felt kind of weird to be there with everyone watching me.
Well, I think they are watching me, but they probably don’t care.
I’m all for random sinks. It encourages people to wash their hands more. It makes sense that Canada doesn’t have this. Imagine when all the sinks freeze over in the winter!

Now, about the faucets..
Just when I think I’ve gotten over random sinks, I get hit with another surprise. It’s still about sinks and we’re moving over to faucets now.
Check out this photo.

My question is, how come I can’t choose between hot water or cold water?
I have posed this question to the owners of this house. The response was simple and logical. Why have two controls when one faucet with neutral temperature water is already there? I didn’t have a retort for that.
When I think about it, it’s even better because there is no extra faucet to clean! The design is simple and does the job. It just sucks when I want hotter or colder water.
Every time I went to use the sink, I’d just have to twist that one knob. It become so convenient.
So, what do you think about these sinks and faucets? Do they surprise you?
To be honest, this is the reason I like to travel so much. There’s always something new waiting for me around the corner. I love discovering, exploring, and learning. I never knew I’d be thinking so much about sinks!
