You’re About to Discover One of the Cheapest Things You Can Do in Malaysia
It’s so mundane, yet so satisfying.

I am serious. When I visit Malaysia, my favourite activity is getting my hair washed at the hair salon. No joke.
I literally go to the salon just to get my hair washed. No cut, no treatment, no dye. Just a simple wash and dry.
Now before you wonder if I’ve gone bonkers or proceed to give me a backhanded slap, hear me out.
In Ipoh, getting a shampoo and dry at the hair salon cost about 10–20 ringgits. If I convert that to Canadian dollars, we are looking at around $3-$7.
That’s cheaper than a fast food meal in Toronto!
A hair wash in Malaysia is special. It’s an experience.
As they wash your hair, they also give you the most comfortable head and scalp massage ever. It sometimes even includes a shoulder and neck massage too!
Most of the time, the service is also impeccable. They’ll offer you a drink and magazines and their wi-fi password. It’s like a mini spa visit for a fraction of the price.
For less than $10, how can I refuse?
If you’ve been to Malaysia, you can also understand how hot and sticky the weather is.
With long hair whipping about, it’s only a matter of time before you walk around with greasy and sweaty hair stuck to your face.
It’s truly a very unpleasant feeling. A refreshing shampoo at the salon is a gift from heaven!
When the heat is particularly hot, I’ll get this done every few days. To be honest, it’s something that I look forward to doing when I’m there.
Have you ever tried out a shampoo and dry in Malaysia?
