If You’re Going Through A Dark Night of The Soul, Read This

The dark night of the soul is defined as a spiritual journey that takes you along an emotional roller coaster, shaking everything you thought to be true and bringing you face to face with your deepest fears.

During a dark night of the soul, it’s not uncommon to feel like you’ve been abandoned by the Universe.

You may feel like the Universe keeps throwing curve balls at you, leaving you feeling helpless and lost.

My dark night of the soul was the most painful and confusing phase of my life. My old self was slowly deteriorating, and I had no idea of how to cope with everything life was throwing my way.

However, deep down I knew I needed to experience it. I knew I was not living in alignment with my authentic self. Unfortunately, sometimes we can only change when life forces us to (at least, that was my case).

So believe me, I know exactly what you’re going through.

Here’s what I want you to know.

First, Let Me Validate Your Feelings

When we’re going through a dark night of the soul, we feel like no one around us truly understands what we’re experiencing.

So let me validate your feelings first.

I know how lost and confused you are. I know the hopelessness and emptiness you feel.

You feel like you’re wandering in the darkness, searching for a sense of purpose or direction. You feel like you’ve lost your way, or that the path ahead is unclear.

You might have experienced a sudden job loss, a health crisis, a relationship breakdown, or a significant loss of a loved one. Or maybe you’re questioning the way your family operates and how it has affected your personality.

Whatever it is, it can leave you feeling like your world has been turned upside down.

Please know this: your feelings are valid.

It’s okay to feel scared. It’s okay to feel abandoned. It’s okay to feel lost. It’s all temporary, and this too shall pass.

Think Of Your Dark Night As Solving A Puzzle

You know that feeling when you’re trying to solve a puzzle, and no matter how hard you try, some pieces just won’t fit? Well, a dark night of the soul can feel a lot like that.

You may feel like you’re searching for something, but no matter what you do, you can’t seem to find it. You might try all sorts of different things, but nothing seems to work. It’s like you’re stuck in a maze with no way out.

But here’s the thing: sometimes the last piece of the puzzle is hiding in plain sight. You might have looked everywhere else, but it’s right there under the couch. And once you find it, everything falls into place.

That’s the thing about a dark night of the soul: it can be a frustrating and confusing experience, but it’s also an opportunity for growth and self-discovery. You might feel lost and disconnected, but that doesn’t mean you’re not making progress.

Sometimes the hardest part is just being patient and trusting the process.

And sometimes, the answers we’re desperately looking for are right in front of us (but we’re either in denial or too tired to take action). For example:

  • Maybe you’re struggling with a decision about your career. You’ve been doing a lot of soul-searching and researching different options, trying to find the perfect fit. But the answer might be right in front of you — maybe you have a talent or a passion that you’ve been ignoring because it doesn’t fit into your idea of what your career should be.
  • Or maybe you’re going through a difficult breakup, and you’re searching for ways to heal and move on. You’ve tried all the usual things — talking to friends, going to therapy, distracting yourself with hobbies — but nothing seems to be working. But maybe there’s someone in your life who you’ve been pushing away or neglecting, and reaching out to them could be the key to healing and moving on.

So don’t overlook the things that are right in front of you. Sometimes the answers we’re looking for are simpler than we think, and they’re just waiting for us to notice them.

Be Gentle With Yourself Through This Process

Solving a puzzle can be a lot of work, especially when you’re trying to find missing pieces. And when you’re going through a dark night of the soul, it can be even more exhausting.

You might feel like you’re constantly searching for answers and solutions, and like you’re getting nowhere.

That’s why it’s important to remember to give yourself time to rest. It’s okay to take a break from the puzzle and come back to it later with fresh eyes. In fact, sometimes that’s the best thing you can do.

When you’re feeling drained and overwhelmed, it can be hard to see things clearly. But when you take a step back and give yourself time to recharge, you might find that the missing pieces become more apparent.

So don’t feel like you have to solve the puzzle all at once. Take breaks when you need them, and don’t be too hard on yourself if you’re not making progress as quickly as you’d like. The important thing is to keep trying, keep moving forward, and trust that you’ll find your way out.

Remember, a dark night of the soul can be a transformative experience. It might not feel like it right now, but by working through the puzzle and finding those missing pieces, you’re growing and evolving in ways you might not even realize yet.

You’ve got this.

You’re capable of solving this puzzle.
