If You’re A Miserable Person, There’s No Need To Intentionally Drag Others Into Your Gloomy Existence

Misery loves company, and lately, it appears that many miserable people are trying to intentionally make us part of their company. Are we comforted knowing that others are less happy than we are? Perhaps it’s why we cling to the chaos and drama we see unfolding daily. Could this be a reflection of our inner turmoil and a way to deflect from the gloom and self-hate we feel?

I am not a psychiatrist, but occasionally, I receive premonitions that allow me to examine my own life. And when I step into that pile of shit, it is then that I better understand the lessons that were meant to be extracted from the experiences. When I was consumed by darkness in the “sunken place” of the crevices of my mind, I easily projected that despair onto those around me. In an article entitled Trust the Journey Even When You Don’t Understand It, I wrote:

“It is not easy to find the light when all someone sees is darkness. It is not easy to keep the faith when all feels lost. It is not easy to love when all you have experienced is hate.” — Melanie J.

If you haven’t noticed, we are constantly being fed fear, hate, death, destruction, war, divisive rhetoric, and everything in between. And on major social media platforms, you can easily see what stories trend on the algorithm. They are usually stories laced with these controversial subject matters that will trigger heightened emotional responses.

Unfortunately, those are the stories that receive the most traffic. But what does that say about us? What makes us want to click on those headlines instead of the ones that have something positive to offer humanity? Simply put, misery loves company.

It is fair to say that some of those brilliant creators and the masterminds behind the machines, understand this human construct. They know they’ll eat as long as unsuspecting humans continue to feed them. And while their wallets are getting fat, we’re left suffering in our own darkness, overwhelmed with misery and even more self-hate. And thus, they have successfully gained our company.

“What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?” — Mark 8:36

Now that we have been pulled into someone else’s gloomy existence, we perpetuate the cycle by doing the same to others. Perhaps it’s unbeknownst to us because we can’t see beyond the frame of misery that we are co-existing in. Of course, there could also be a scientific explanation that stems from the receptors in our brains. Obviously, I am no scientist, so I won’t go down that path as I am not versed enough to tackle that beast.

Certainly, this does not apply to providing emotional support to other humans when they are feeling down. This applies to those who are deliberate in their actions to make others suffer in the same darkness.

Life isn’t easy, and for many of us, it can be downright unforgiving. But does it benefit us to project our inner demons unto others? Some might say yes because they are unbothered by the welfare of their fellow humans. So, it is for them to profit, whether financially or emotionally, by dragging us into their miserable existence.

Indeed, misery does love company and will always perpetuate this chaotic Matrix…AS LONG…AS WE…KEEP FEEDING IT.
