Summary

Rasheed Hooda reflects on a writing prompt by Desiree Driesenaar to define oneself as a verb, choosing "FLOW" to encapsulate his role in the universe, and elaborates on this concept through personal insights and an acronym.

Abstract

In response to a creative challenge issued by Desiree Driesenaar, Rasheed Hooda embraces the notion of defining his existence not as a noun but as a verb, specifically the verb "FLOW." Drawing inspiration from Buckminster Fuller's view of life as an evolutionary process, Hooda sees himself as a conduit for abundance and motion. He details three particular meanings of "FLOW" that resonate with him: to circulate, to proceed smoothly, and to abound in something. Hooda also shares an acronym he created for FLOW, which stands for Flood, Love, Own, and Wonder, symbolizing his approach to life and his philosophy of continuous growth and contribution to the universe. The essay concludes with a call to action for readers to consider their own verbal essence and a nod to his contributions to the ILLUMINATION writers' community on Medium.

Opinions

  • Hooda aligns with Buckminster Fuller's idea that individuals are not static entities but rather dynamic processes integral to the universe.
  • He values the richness and depth of the word "FLOW," appreciating its various connotations.
  • The author emphasizes abundance and the circulation of resources, both tangible and intangible, as central to his life's function.
  • Hooda uses acronyms as a playful and profound tool to explore and express the essence of words and concepts.
  • He believes in the interconnectedness of the universe, with love acting as the binding energy that facilitates this connection.
  • The concept of ownership is redefined by Hooda to mean taking responsibility and recognizing one's unique influence on the universe.
  • Curiosity and the act of wondering are seen as drivers of evolution and expansion, both personally and universally.
  • Hooda encourages other writers and individuals to reflect on their own verbal nature, suggesting that this introspection can overcome writer's block and lead to a more fulfilling existence.

CREATIVE CHALLENGE | WRITING PROMPT

If I Were a Verb, I Would be…

Responding to a challenge by Desiree Driesenaar

Mini Niagaras by Rasheed Hooda

My friend Desiree says, Let’s All Be a Verb.

She quotes Buckminster Fuller.

I live on Earth at present, and I don’t know what I am. I know that I am not a category. I am not a thing — a noun. I seem to be a verb, an evolutionary process — an integral function of the universe.

She challenges us to look at ourselves and define who we are in terms of a verb — as a function of the universe.

If I were a verb, what would I be?

What function do I serve in the infinite and eternal universe?

FLOW, of course.

Dictionary.com gives twelve distinct meanings for the verb FLOW. That testifies to the richness of the word itself. I like that.

I chose the following three meanings that describe my function in the universe the best.

  1. To circulate.
  2. to proceed continuously and smoothly.
  3. To abound in something.

One of my favorite affirmations is:

“Ever-increasing sums of money circulates in my life with joy and ease.”

I am all about abundance in motion. I like to receive it, and I like to share it.

Recently, I have started playing with words as I used to as a child, to describe them — thanks to Tim Maudlin and Henery X (long) — as acronyms. You take a word and spell it out vertically, then take each letter and form a word starting with them. In other words, you create an acronym.

Here is an acronym for FLOW.

Flood

A flood is an overflow, an abundance of flow. I am known for my outrageous and ridiculously large goals. Like Walking Route 66, and a plan for climbing Mt. Everest on my 75th birthday.

Love

Love is the interconnecting function of the universe. It is the glue that holds the universe together. It is the flow of energy that binds everything. To love is to attract, to pull, to set flow in motion.

Own

To own is to possess, to take control, to take responsibility. I am a unique expression of the universe and as such, I influence the universe. My existence is a requirement in the universe's flow. I am an integral part of it.

Wonder

To wonder is to be curious, to ask what if? Curiosity is the seed of creation, of expansion, of increased flow. It is the seed of evolution. The universe is continuously evolving into a better, grander version of itself.

To sum it up.

When you flood everything with your love — the binding energy — to own and take responsibility for what is and what can be, with wonder and curiosity, you create a FLOW resulting in a more magnificent universe where everything expands into abundance.

What verb will you use to describe yourself, Sharon Hurley Hall, Bob Jasper, Michele Thill, Tim Maudlin, Catherine Pugh, Esq., Rosennab, P.G. Barnett, Timothy Key, Henery X (long), Sherry McGuinn or anyone who is facing a writer’s block?

As always, thank you for reading and responding.
