FREE VERSE/THE TOP SHELF

I Wanna Be a Sista

With skin that glows like a latte pond, chocolate bittersweet, or a Hershey’s Kiss, honeyed and molten on the tongue

With lush, full lips that need no “fillers” nor adornment, and a sensuality that’s undeniable and unrestrained

With hair that has a life of its own, natural, and wild, a voluminous force to be coveted and celebrated and for some, like me, envied

With sex appeal that’s ingrained, not strained, and a form kissed by curves that unabashedly proclaim, “fuck skin and bones”

With vitality, nobility, and a badassery that never, ever puts up with bullshit from bullshitters, no matter their “birthright”

With substance and style and a “let’s get it poppin’ with no stoppin’” zest for life and all of its obstacles, and glories

With love…
