I Made $2.25 In My First Week On Medium
How did I do it? Did I just Manifest my first Medium Payout? Follow my 7-day journey to monetization.
How did I do it? Was it some crazy technique? Did I spend 50 hours on Medium for the past 7 days? What is the secret? Is there really a secret way to navigate monetization on this platform? Continue below to find out.
I did it the same way that I believe everyone else does it.
It was not a crazy, painful technique.
It didn't require me to be attached to my computer screen, or cell phone app for 50 hours in the 7 day time span.
The Secret is to not give up, and stay focused. Keep your mind completely attuned to your desires, and intentions for being here.
If there is a secret way to navigating monetization on this platform, then I have no clue as to what that secret is.
Here is what I do know about my journey for the past 7 days: I have been extremely anxious, yet extremely thrilled and excited. Here is my 7 day breakdown in hours.
DAY 1 SATURDAY 3/26/22: I read a few articles and started learning how to compose my own. I created my own publication as I learned from Zulie Rane’s youtube videos. I created 1/2 of an article draft. I followed around 20 “famous” writers, and about 30 newbies. I had about 24 followers in closing my first day. (Most new writers should add other new writers, as you are all on the same page & working together to lift each other up is the name of the game of LIFE. If only more people could follow this concept outside of Medium).
Total Time Spent: 4 hours; 24 followers; no articles written or published.
DAY 2 SUNDAY 3/27/22: I finished my first draft and published it in my own publication. I then spent about an hour creating my about me section on my homepage. I researched and requested to be added to certain publications friendly to new writers. I then came across the About Me publication. I realized that I could convert my About section on my homepage, into a thorough About Me story for publication. I sent it to publication to the editor, Quy Ma, and when I woke up the next day, not only was it published but also promoted on Twitter. I continued to follow around 60 people, ending up with 45 followers by the end of the day. Here is my first article published:
Total Time Spent: 6 hours; 45 followers; 1 article published.
DAY 3 MONDAY 3/28/22: I woke up to my About Me story published and shared on Twitter. I thanked the editor for his post, and also shared the article on my Twitter. I then decided to write an article on how I felt upon hearing about some of the new updates on assistance for the Ukraine & Russia conflict. This created a lot of tension for me within my mind and body, but I wrote my feelings regardless. I sent it to be published in Illumination, thinking that it would be a long shot. I then continued to follow more people with minimal followers themselves. I received notice that my article on the war and the effects on American wallets was indeed published! You can read both of these stories below:
Total Time Spent: 6 hours; 68 followers; 3 articles published.
DAY 4 TUESDAY 3/29/22: I woke up to so many comments, claps, and notifications from the 3 articles that I published, I was shocked. I was almost at 100 followers but did not obsess over gaining followers, I simply added all who added me, and then added others that I found interesting. As I gained a little traction on my articles, I proceeded to follow anyone who left a comment, because if they took the time to read about me, I would do the same for them. I then worked on a follow-up story to the Ukraine & Russia story that I wrote, detailing the anxiety attack I had following the publication of that story. I was scared to release that as well but again forwarded it as a follow-up to the Illumination publication. I continued to follow those who followed and commented. I also wrote an article about how exciting it was to be close to 100 followers and even more exciting, was how great the feeling was to bring OTHER writers from 99 to 100 followers. I sent the article to New Writers Welcome Publication, and it got rejected due to the subject content around followers. I didn't cry, I didn't scream, I actually took the rejection very well. I took that as an opportunity to re-examine the content and make it more authentic, raw, and honest. I had the firm belief that my article was good, and that it would be well received by those who were looking for that type of information. I refused to give up on the article. I left in it my drafts and had nothing new published this day. I also maintained the intention in my mind that when I woke up in the morning, I would be at 100 followers. There was no way that I wouldn't be able to go from 83 to 100. 17 followers are most definitely attainable overnight with 3 published articles.
Total Time Spent: 4 hours; 83 followers; 3 articles published.
By Day 5, my world was about to change.
DAY 5 WEDNESDAY 3/30/22: I woke up to the illustrious 101 followers! I was so excited, yet I knew in my bones that I would hit this milestone within my first week. I was too passionate, too motivated, and too focused to not achieve this step so soon. Stay with your intentions, and you will achieve your desires. I worked on setting up my MPP account, responded, and followed all comments and followers. I also worked on my rejected draft.
Total Time Spent: 7 hours; 117 followers; 3 articles published.
DAY 6 THURSDAY 3/31/22: The first thing I did when I woke up in the morning, was go to check my MPP dashboard. I had made my first $0.05 from my About Me story! Woo hoo! I was so excited. My mind was racing with thoughts such as- You did it, you are an official published author, you are an official paid writer, you can do anything that you put your mind and heart into. Who cares about rejection, your tribe is out there, ready to receive what you have to offer.
So many other writers have mentioned how long it has taken, and I cannot relate to that. I feel so blessed, thankful and grateful, that I have received such a warm welcome on this platform. I decided to tap into one of my journals, to show more raw emotion surrounding putting myself out there. I didn't see enough of these stories as a new writer and wanted to help to put more out there. I then wrote an article that I sent to Know Thyself, Heal Thyself. It was published with the hour. You can see this article below:
Total Time Spent: 4 hours; 162 followers; 4 articles published.
DAY 7 FRIDAY 04/01/22: I checked my dashboard asap in the morning. $2.25 total! I had only been on the platform for less than a total of 7 days, had only published 4 articles, and written 6. I was amazed at the progress. I also realize that maybe my first week on Medium is not the typical experience of others.
Total Time Spent: 6 hours; 200 followers; 4 articles published.
Now to close, let me tell you the things that I feel were the most important to me actually achieving this.
STAYING FOCUSED- Do not let others' opinions or articles sway you from your purpose. Only you truly know why you are on this platform, and what you are trying to accomplish. I knew that God had been pushing me to extend myself to others, in the intention to reach and uplift, by sharing my personal experiences in life.
MANIFESTING YOUR INTENTIONS- I knew that I was following one of my life’s purposes. I understood that the growth obtained while on this platform, would be life-altering for me. In terms of my online presence, as well as the physical reality I live in daily. Every day that I woke up, for an hour before I signed onto my computer, I journaled intuitively, allowing my soul to guide me in helping me to manifest what I truly desired through using this platform. I had pure intentions and knew that abundance was available to me if I would only believe that. I wrote a vision statement for myself, and daily expanded on that or fine-tuned it.
NOT ALLOWING YOUR FEARS TO CONTROL YOUR CONTENT- I had so many personal mental battles this first week, always when I logged off and sat back in my physical reality, and realized what I was doing with my time. My ego proceeded to attack me DAILY, with self-deprecating thoughts. I had to fight back on those thoughts daily, knowing that they were there to protect me and hold me back from facing my fears. Yet, my intentions for being on this site were the exact opposite of that. I was supposed to be facing my fears, and living authentically.
Overall, I spent around 37 hours in 7 days on this platform. I realize that not everyone has this availability, and perhaps that was helpful in me achieving these stats so soon.
But if you can spend more time on the weekends, you could possibly clock 14–20 hours in just on the weekend alone.
Whatever you do, the biggest thing I could recommend is all within your own MENTALITY. If you truly believe you can achieve and apply yourself and maintain a state of positivity, then the things meant to reach you, will have the perfect conditions to do so. We are all human and have doubts, but as long as you can push yourself through those hard moments of doubt, you will make it through to the other side.
I have since had another story published, and I aim to publish a minimum of 5 articles per week. I am intending to be kind to myself with these demands, as I know everyday is different and will have different demands in my physical life. You can read my most recent article below:
