I Hate How I “Look”
Is this how we want our world to look now?
I look at myself in the mirror, but I don’t know who I see
Yesterday I saw promise
Yesterday I saw compassion
Yesterday I saw the contribution of one’s passions and talents
Yesterday I saw initiative in its’ purest forms
Yesterday I saw fairness
Yesterday I saw honor, demonstrating integrity, good character, thinking and acting honestly
Yesterday I saw the sharing of ideas, not just discourse and hate
Yesterday I saw humility to give praise to those who earn it
Yesterday I saw “love”
Yesterday I saw freedom
Yesterday I saw civil discourse, yet reasoned and respectful of one another’s views
Yesterday I saw integrity to keep one’s promises, to expose the untruths, and to tell the truth
Yesterday I saw liberty
Yesterday I saw justice
Yesterday I saw perseverance
Yesterday I saw responsibility, acting on good judgment, deserving the trust of others.
Yesterday I saw vigilance to look for wrongs, to see wrongs, to right the wrongs. Remedy possible injustices or evil.
Yesterday I saw laws for all, not just the few
Yesterday I saw a bright light, not a dark cloud
Yesterday I saw the courage to stand firm as a person of character in the face of fear and danger
Yesterday I saw a better “future” for all, not just who thought that they deserved it
Yesterday is in the past…let’s look at our “tomorrow” together.
I want to know that person in the mirror again.
Like many here in the United States, and globally, 2020 has been a tough year for me. So many challenges we are facing, and so much promise that seems to be lost. But, is it?
I want to believe in the good in people and humanity as a whole. I know we are all trying to do the right things. Be the good people that we each have the power to be.
I, like many of you just have to be reminded, that the person we see in the mirror each morning, is the person that we are.
Who that person “is” is up to each of us. Up to our beliefs. Up to our actions. Up to our courage and conviction. Up to each of us to look back, say we were wrong, and then do something positive about it.
We can have communities, cities, countries, and the world we want, but we have to want to see it. See it for what it is, and what it can be.
Let’s get started, and “stop looking back”. Let’s move forward together!
