I Lost a Good Friend

My story of how I lost touch with a good friend

I met this friend while serving in National Service in my younger days. We were in the same camp. Our paths crossed, and we had something in common.

We were both Christians but attended different churches. At that point in our life, we were avid readers of Christian books and often talked about what we learned together.

What impressed me was that he was willing to buy new books and pass them over to me when he had read them. I was happy to borrow those books, and he was delighted to find someone who appreciated similar books.

Hence our friendship grew while serving our time during our National Service. However, we did not keep in touch effectively when we left our camp. Over the next few years, we soon lost contact with each other.

During those years, we could only contact one another through pagers. As technology changed, numbers changed, and there was no way I could reach him today.

I searched through the social media pages but could not locate him. Hence I learned that when you discover a good friend, you must not be out of touch for too long.

Meaningful friendships are hard to come by. Hence I would advise anyone to stay in touch with friends through meet-ups and social media.

Unfortunately, keeping in touch with a friend was more challenging in those years without platforms like social media and smartphones.

Friends do come and go, and that is part of life.
