I Gained 2,000 Followers In Less Than 2 Months On Medium. This is What You Should Know.

Skyrocketing

That’s what I was doing the last few weeks.

When I started writing on Medium on the 1st of January I didn’t see myself here but I knew for sure:

I not going to quit.

I was writing for 45 days non-stop and here I am hitting 2000 followers.

During this time on Medium, I discovered great writers, and readers and learned a lot. Here are some advice :

So what should you know/do?

Develop a habit

Starting is tough but continuing is even harder.

So develop a habit.

You should accept to write for nothing the first 1–3 weeks. If you get more than 20$ in the first 2 weeks you can consider yourself lucky because I earned less than that.

I earned about $3 the first week — $17 the second week.

All that time you should write every day. That’s the moment you should write the more because you are building the audience and connecting with people from zero. Later, you can write less and focus on quality.

I don’t say that you should do bad writing at your start, but quantity should be here.

I developed my writing routine and know you see the results.

There will be ups and downs.

That’s something you can’t avoid. Every single writer is going through this. Sometimes it’s a day or two but I can be more. It can even be for a couple of weeks.

Your stats will decrease and increase that’s something you can’t control. What you can control is your emotions and views on that.

It shouldn’t make you quit.

For a while I had my stats decreasing (for almost a week) I remember going from 20 reads/day to 4 reads/day.

I thought of quitting (honestly).

But I didn't because I know that consistency with dedication and hard work always pays.

Reading is the key

Read Read and Read.

“I kept always two books in my pocket, one to read, one to write in.” — Robert Louis Stevenson

I can’t agree more with that quote. If you want to write you should read. You can’t start writing if you never read anything.

It’s like going to a swimming competition without listening to your coach’s advice…

I’m reading 4–6 stories/day and writing 1–2 (not counting books). That’s something you should remember.

Be confident.

If you are writing like you not even sure what you are writing is true will never succeed. Building a community is giving something valuable that you have and the readers don’t.

Think about it.

That’s the reason you are reading this story!

You know I have something valuable to share that can help or distract you.

So always be confident, and not even on Medium it will help you everywhere in your life. (Even with girls haha)

In a nutshell

  • Be confident
  • Don’t be afraid of ups and downs
  • Read Read and Read
  • Be consistent

That’s not all you should know but I can’t put all in this one story.
