Don’t do this. Or People Will Look At Your Medium Account Differently

At least I’ve tried to warn…

For a writer, the key to success is to build an audience.

To understand the problem I’m writing about we should define the following :

What’s an audience to me? (an maybe to you)

That’s people reading most of your stories and engaging with your content in the long term.

A lot of factors can stop you from getting an audience.

But there is one which is under your control and it’s up to you to choose whether to adopt this strategy or not.

Let’s go straight to the point :

Follow for Follow :

You may’ve seen it coming…Follow for Follow is hurting your account and here is why :

  1. You are attracting the same people as you who won’t read your stories :

It’s showing a lot of engagement to your potential readers who will check your account and see a lot of followers and low engagement.

It can even lead to wrong thoughts like :

Maybe he is a bad writer?

And the reader will run away. (You don’t want that)

2. Don’t have the other writers respect :

Maybe something unusual, but there are tons of medium writers who won’t like your account because you are following tons of other writers.

Because obviously, you are not reading them all that’s creating a “bot” audience.

So you’ll pass for someone selfish…That just gives unnecessary hope to new writers who are struggling to get a real follower.

3. Your development as a writer :

Your writing depends on how much you read from others. Not in terms of content (because you shouldn't be stealing content ) but in terms of quality of writing.

Remember — The more you read. The best your writing will be. It improves your imagination, vocabulary, and grammar.

Maybe one day Grammarly will become unnecessary

Checking how other writers are doing in your niche can also be a benefit. But with tons of followers, you won’t be able to keep tracking them…
