I Am Not Who You Think I Am

I am who I am

Shhhh…. (Photo: Canva)

A reader once asked me to remove my profile picture. She said the sign I was making — the shhhh sign — was demonic.

What could I say?

I was so confused by the comment I left the picture as it was.

Another reader called me naïve for still believing in God. He said this is a new age and I should cut it out already with the God talk.

What could I say?

I believe in God.

I believe and I know many don’t. I have a mission to reach and teach billions so I don’t solely teach using the Scriptures. When I don’t use scripture or say God’s name, some others question if I am truly guided by God.

Again, what can I say?

I stand grounded in scripture and boldly say the name of God and still some other people reach out, saying I must use more universal terms to include the masses.

I say fair enough.

I love the universe!

I say Universe to reach more people and still some reach out to say they couldn’t resonate with my teachings because they do not worship the Universe.

Again, what can I say?

Can I please everyone?

When I say I am spiritual but not religious, I have people reaching out inquiring if I do fortune telling, engage in divination, or can help them contact spirits of the dead or a spirit guide, practices I do not partake in.

It always makes me wonder what I said to make them assume that.

When I first had a spiritual awakening, I was as curious as a cat and used to be fascinated with horoscopes, but I realized that those practices did not align with my beliefs and the spiritual path I was destined to walk. With clarity and conviction, I chose to step away from these pursuits.

But all of these people reaching out to me with comments like these make me reflect on the clarity of my teachings. I wonder if I am being lukewarm and not taking a side and therefore creating confusion amongst my readers.

I took a side and never left that side. I chose God’s side, and I never switched sides.

There’s never been a time where I’ve been godless. I have always believed in God.

I acknowledge and love the Spirit of God who created me. Without its existence, I wouldn’t exist. In all that I do, my loyalty to God comes first. My book is subtitled: A Guide to a Godly Spiritual Awakening for this reason.

You may or may not know this, but I am obsessed with God. Like the kind of obsession where I can’t stop when I get started talking about the things of God. However, my obsession with the Source of all creation does not automatically make me a Christian.

Whenever I teach from the Bible quoting scripture and using Jesus’s parables, some people assume I am a fundamental Christian trying to convert them to Christ or force my archaic beliefs on them, but that’s not my intention.

I am devoted to God, but I do not conform to traditional Christian ideals, not because I do not love Christ, but because I truly love Christ.

I love God and strive to live as he did and do as he continues to teach me every day. For that reason; I resonate with the term Christ-like.

I strive to follow Christ’s teachings and be a good person, although I acknowledge I am still learning and fall short.

But unlike Christ, who offers salvation, I simply wish people well on their chosen paths. My work for God does not involve preaching to others to convert them.

That’s not what I’m called to do.

I am called to let my light shine before others so that they may see my works and give glory to God.

Despite aspiring to be Christ-like and being highly spiritual, I am not a guru. I see myself as a servant following the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

And I know no other spirit guides.

I have a newsletter called “Letters From The Universe” where I serve as a vessel for spiritual messages to come through for those who need it. People have asked me, “Why not just say “Letters From God?” thinking my newsletter gives some credit to a universe that cannot create itself.

I couldn’t say much but I will say this:

God created the Universe and while I respect everything God created, I have never worshipped the Universe nor prayed to the broad universe, nor have I ever implied that in any of my teachings. I have written many articles where I warn seekers about the dangers of praying to the universe.

I have learned that the Universe comprises everything good and evil and this is usually when people write to tell me I need my check my big spiritual ego for thinking there is such a thing as evil.

Sigh.

Must we keep pretending all is love and light simply because we are spiritual folks in a new age?

Many people of the new age claim to be channels of sources of light, but even Jesus had a thing or two to say about all the evil in today’s world.

I have always called good, good, and evil by its name.

Because of all the evil that is being portrayed as good and the false light appearing real, I rely heavily on the Bible (even when I am not quoting Scripture) to stay true to its teachings, avoiding practices that are common but misleading with a heart full of gratitude and humility. Even if others choose such practices, I can still show them love and respect as we cross paths.

Some people may criticize this stance and call me lukewarm for not condemning the people who practice those things the Bible teaches us against, but love is the greatest of them all, says Christ.

I get it.

My spirituality is no doubt very complicated but I hope I can clear some of these misunderstandings about me and the work I do.

I do not dabble in divination, contact spirits (other than the Holy Spirit), or speak to the deceased. My spiritual journey is firmly rooted in the teachings of the Bible and distance myself from anything contrary to its guidance.

My reverence is for YHWH, my God of the Bible, and I cherish his creation, including the universe, yet I do not worship the universe itself.

I have also realized that no matter what I do, there will be someone who is not pleased with me or my work therefore I refuse to worry about those inquiries. I read it, learn what I got to learn and let it go.

There is only one thing that I truly care about and that is pleasing the One who sent me.

And for those who are curious about the “shhhh” sign and what it even means, well it means just what it looks like.

When someone puts a finger to their lips and says “shhhh,” it’s a gesture to indicate silence or to ask others to be quiet. It’s my non-verbal way of signaling that I want to keep what I do quiet.

In the past, I would have folks I knew from childhood and elsewhere read my work and tell those who were involved in the story what I had said which only created chaos and frustration.

So the shhhh sign means that if you know me personally and you read my stuff, be quiet and mind your own business. Don’t go telling mine.

But that’s just the first reason.

When I started writing, it was obvious how saturated this place was and to make a difference, I had to be different so I could stand out.

I was never meant to fit in and do things as everybody does them.

Another explanation for my profile picture is that, when we are quiet, we can better hear the voice of God and learn.

That’s how best I can explain the shhhhh

Times are changing. I’ve been getting inquiries from people who want to collaborate with me and that’s wonderful.

For some time now, I have loved walking the path alone and I have gotten to places very fast but at this point on my spiritual journey, I am headed to some faraway places and for that, I seek people to walk the path with.

So I would love to collaborate with you and other creators.

If you want to work with me, know that I deeply love God, and my identity is rooted in that. While I love and can work with all people, I connect and work best with those who share this love for God.

If this resonates with you, our paths may align beautifully. If not, I respect your journey, but I must be transparent about where my faith lies and stand strong in my beliefs.

Whatever spiritual path you have chosen, your journey is yours to navigate, but I’m here if you need a helping hand or some inspiration along the way. I’m here to offer guidance and support, not to force my beliefs on you.

Should our paths meet in mutual understanding and respect, I welcome the opportunity to walk together in love and light.

Thank you.

I may not be who you thought I was, but I am who I am.
