Wouldn’t you rather be laughing? We are here for one purpose — to bring humor to the world. How do we do that? Yes, we write. But there is so much more to what makes MuddyUm the best community on Medium. Ask any of the editors. They’ll tell you why this is where they choose to park their volunteer editorial skills.
We are a family — a tight knit community of writers and editors — dedicated to improving our humor writing skills, while publishing with quality. You will rarely see typos or mistakes in our pieces. It’s priceless to have a full team of editors working by your side to help polish your pieces. And we are all volunteers. We love humor THAT MUCH.
We run an annual Comedy Camp — a writers’ retreat for our writers and editors to share skills, laughter, food and fun.
1. Easiest way: Sign up here and check the box that you want to be a writer.
2. Send an email to the Cap’n at [email protected] (or [email protected]) Send a draft or published link to give an idea of what you write. We are also on Slack. The only way to join us there is by a private invitation, also from the Cap’n, through your email request.
3. FIND and FRIEND the good Cap’n on fb and send a DM text to the Captain of the ship and owner of the Good Ship MuddyUm, Susan Brearley. That is, IF you wish to join the Outlaws, our top secret pirate ship support group for our humorist writers. If you are NOT on Facebook, you can of course, skip this step. Do that after you send the opening email request.
For more information about what we are up to, subscribe to the newsletter that MuddyUm produces.
Also, please subscribe at our official website at muddyum.org. It is here that we’ll also announce live programs, like Comedy Camps, writers’ retreats, and opportunities to participate in our book publishing work.
DO NOT LEAVE A COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE. There are so many, we might not see it in a timely fashion. Send the email, as directed. Your ability to perform this task is the single most important qualifier to being accepted as a writer. Oh, and it helps if you write something original and funny too.
HIGHLY SUGGESTED to get your piece published fastest: READ THE ARTICLES UNDER the MuddyUm Front Page tab called “OUTLAWS” to determine if you can withstand the rigors of being a crew mate on our pirate ship. This is where our repository of How-To-Torials and writing standards for the publication reside.
If you skip doing this, your piece might not be ready for submission, and will slow down the entire queue in the publication process. You don’t want to be the one holding up the works. You might think that just reading a quick 101 tutorial is good enough. That might be flawed logic. Just like college, 101 is the intro course. There are nuanced and very funny additional takes in the other articles by other editors behind the Outlaws tab. Just like in school days, some teachers will resonate for you better than others. Our editorial team has vastly differing editing styles amongst our members.
Why do we have formatting and editing standards? Our goal is to become the number 1 humor publication on Medium. Our global pirate takeover strategy is sound and we remain undeterred. So bring your best game when you write for us!
P.S. It helps if you read as many author written articles as you can here on MuddyUm, to get the feel of this fun crew of writers. A good place to start is with some of these found below.
