How To Show Extreme Confidence

…and earn respect instantly.

Confidence is everything.

Whether you come across as confident or not makes a huge difference and often determines your results in interactions with others. Both in business and dating.

That’s why it’s good to know how to appear more confident. And to work on these things, of course. With these methods, I have become more confident and appear that way to other people. Master them and watch the behavior of others towards you change.

Control the frame

Not the picture frame, but the frame of your interaction. The frame can be defined as the unspoken context that dictates the rules of any interaction. In interactions, two different people either accept or reject the frame of the other person.

Let me illustrate with an example. Imagine you have an interview with the boss of a company to which you have applied. In this situation, the frame is set. The boss decides about your future. He is in control, he sets the frame of the interaction, and you try to sell yourself as good as possible.

But what if you don’t answer his questions, but instead say: “I have many options. Many other companies are interested in hiring me. Why should I work for you? What sets you apart from other companies and what can you offer me?”

Now two things could happen, either the boss gets angry and the interview is over or he actually tries to convince you. In the second case, you would have managed to set the frame. Setting the frame, or not accepting an imposed frame, shows extreme self-confidence and earns you respect.

However, in some situations, it is not advisable. Especially when you are dealing with authorities who have the upper hand. For example, the police.

Eye Contact and Body Language

Eye contact is powerful. Not everyone has the confidence to look the other person directly in the eye during a conversation. But if you do, you’ll look enormously confident and show that you’re not afraid and don’t feel inferior. Numerous studies show this effect.

A study by the Idiap Research Institute found that eye contact does indeed show position in the social hierarchy as well as dominance relationships. It was found that people who are higher in the dominance hierarchy hold eye contact more than others.

Your overall body language is equally important. Walking upright shows self-confidence and earns you respect. You are perceived very differently than if you walk around with your head hanging down. What few people know, however: This also works the other way around. If you force yourself to walk upright and confidently you will automatically feel a bit more like that.

Fake it till you make it.

How you react to insults or attacks

Imagine you have to hurry up to get to the store in time. This is why you end up not exactly wearing the best outfit. You enter the store in old sweatpants and old shoes. In the store, you meet a friend who says that you look like a homeless person. The normal reaction is probably to say something like this: “Yes, I know. I was in a hurry and these pants were the first ones I found.” However, if you want to appear very confident, you can say something like this: “Yeah, it’s going to be another cold night under the bridge tonight.”

By not seriously addressing the content of the insult, you show that you don’t have to justify yourself and are confident enough to wear your outfit without any explanations.

You don’t need to impress others

We all know people who brag all the time. What at first glance might be perceived as self-confident is actually just the opposite. If you’re really confident, you don’t need to push your ego by telling everyone how great you are. By showing that you don’t need to impress anyone, you show true confidence. Imagine someone you know quite well finds out about a massive success you recently had. Your success will impress them, but the fact that you didn’t even brag about it will impress them even more.

Summary

Being able to radiate self-confidence is like a cheat code in many situations. If you pay attention to the following things, you can improve significantly and be extremely self-confident one day. I’m on this path right now. I’m still a long way from my goal, but I’ve been able to improve a lot.

  • Control the frame of your interactions.
  • Hold eye contact.
  • React more relaxed to insults.
  • Stop trying to impress others.
