How to shade hair- Easy tutorial for beginners- IbisPaintX
In this article, I will show you how to shade hair! It will be useful for your drawings

I think, this article will be very useful for anime characters, or random characters you will make. Many people get confused about how to use a brush called ‘Hair’ or ‘Oil (Hair)’, but here, you will not need any of those!
Subscribe. You will see soon❤
Step 1
First, we start doing the head, so the hair would fit the head. We do the chin. Like this:

The drawing will be simple.
Step 2
Now, we do the hair! Do some random lines or shapes. That’s how I draw hair. Now I will draw a boy.

Also, do the neck and the shirt too.
Step 3
Now, we do the face! I did the eyes, eyebrows, mouth, nose. Like this.

Step 4
Now, we color the character. I used ‘Bucket’ to color all of it. Here is an explanation of why I use Bucket.
‘Why do I think that ‘Bucket’ is better for me? Well, you can just press the part you want it to be colored, and it will color. I know, it might leave some parts uncolored, but it’s still better for me. I can explain the ‘Magic Wand’ one too. You can color with this one too, but accidentally you click another part and it gets annoying when you just can’t select the part you want. But, of course, I haven’t forgotten that you can go to the ‘Selection Layer’ and just do that part with the brush… But that’s my opinion! You can choose any of those. I’m explaining these because I don’t want you to do all of the colorings with the brush…. It takes a long time.’
And, it should look like this.

I like how it looks for now!
Step 5
Now, here I will show how to shade hair! First, go to the layer that has the hair colored. Then add another layer and press Clipping.

Then change it to ‘Multiply’ by going to the big white rectangle that says ‘Normal’.
Now, you will need to go to the hand icon and press the button. Then, at ‘Shape of Fade’ click the second option, look.

Then go and do lines at each part of the hair. Let some space, to do the lighting. It should look like this (With one layer).

Now, you go to the ‘Smudge’ option and do a bit of shading. Like this.

Now, lower the opacity and add another layer, press clipping and choose ‘Multiply’ and do the same. After you did the same, smudge it.

Now, lower the opacity of this one too. Add another layer, press clipping and now choose ‘Add’, then go to the part you didn’t do with ‘Multiply’ and shade there. Smudge it after you’re done.

Lower the opacity, and another layer and do the same. You need to have 3 layers with ‘Add’.

This is how it looks with 3 layers.
Also, the brush I used is ‘Dip Pen (Hard)’.
Step 6
Now, you need to shade the body and the shirt. Just add another layer to each part, and press ‘Multiply’ or choose a darker color. Then, go to the outlines of each thing, add another layer, and press clipping. Choose a darker color and color it. I shaded eyes too, here is an article on how to shade better. I did that fast, so it doesn’t look like in my other article. It looks like this for now.

Step 7
The last step is the background. Yes, I made it myself. I did it very fast, so it might not fit the character that much. But I tried. I did grass with a blue light sky and some clouds. How do I do the clouds? I did some lines then I smudged them. You could lower the opacity. After that, I did some lighting to look like the character is outside. That’s how it turned out!

I hope you understood from this article!❤
