Five Ways to Stay Calm

How to Reduce Anxiety and Stay Calm during current stressful times

I am sure many feel that it has been one thing after the next. Crisis upon crisis.

In this post I will talk about some crises I have been through and how it builds resilience and we will look at five ways we can reduce anxiety and stay calm in these stressful times in our world.

I want to assure you that there is light at the end of the tunnel and that is your own light.

Personal experience

After many years of going through several high-impact moments in my life, I had no other choice than to learn how to reduce the anxiety that comes with it.

If I talk about anxiety here I talk about general anxiety.

Further on in this post I will mention how I overcame severe anxiety that I suffered from for three years.

These stressful times are not good for our mental and physical health and should be managed in the best way possible.

There are a bunch of personal relationships crises I had to overcome, those are probably the most challenging in my opinion.

I became estranged from my family as I was becoming my own person and had to make some tough decisions at an early age. It can cause major inner conflict and if you are not able to navigate through a crisis like this, it will destroy you.

I have been on a little boat caught in a storm in the middle of the Atlantic ocean.

50 knots of wind, waves 10 meters high.

Our power steering broke the first days of our trip and we were steering with a tiller from Cape Town, South Africa to Fortaleza, Brazil, 2600 nautical miles.

Picture of the author, taken after the storm

I had all the money I had saved up for a one-month trip to Europe, stolen in America at age 18. Long story. I slept in the London Underground one night when I had nowhere to go.

I have been on a cruise ship in Antarctica where the window of the bridge [where the captain and officers navigate] broke and the ship flooded.

I have been through a 6.8 earthquake and 9/11 in America.

All of these happened when I was traveling and pretty much ‘alone’.

I can list many more small crises, haha, some of them make me laugh now.

I have had several travel crises.

I now see them as adventures.

Most recently it was the Jabby-Jabby Alert and Elon Musk warns of World War III.

In this post, I introduce to you five ways to stay calm during a crisis.

Practice it with discipline.

Remember that you cannot always believe your mental programming.

Conditioning happens with clever manipulation, drip-feeding ideas over extended periods, much like you are programmed as a child.

Five ways to stay calm during a crisis and how to reduce anxiety during stressful times

1 — Shut out the media

I can go on about bad-mouthing the media, talking about dark forces and conspiracy theories as most do, yet it won’t do you any good.

What I rather want to do is allow you to connect with your higher self, with that part of your consciousness that has more pure information.

Ask yourself these simple questions when it comes to mainstream media:

— Why do I consume this content?

— How do I feel when I consume this content. Do I feel good, happy, excited, positive, free? Do I feel the feelings that mirror my natural state?

— What good and positive energy or action is coming from me consuming this content? Am I changing any situation for the better? Am I uplifting myself or another human being?

— Do I want to be a slave to something which is not good for me?

— What will I lose when I shut out mainstream media?

— What will I gain when I shut out mainstream media?

2 — Do not make radical decisions

Take the pandemic as an example.

People panicked.

Without thorough research and realizing that health is wealth, many got vaccinations based on incomplete science.

What caused all the panic?

That takes me back to number one above.

The propaganda is designed to instill fear in us.

It is. It is a very effective and well-researched tool used by organizations.

People panic, get filled with fear, which releases all kinds of inhibiting hormones and chemicals into the blood which affects the readout of the DNA and thus through epigenetics, results in irrational actions.

3— Focus on your highest excitement

I wrote a whole story about how to focus on your highest excitement and live with no regret.

If you learn how to do this you have a clear path, a roadmap to success.

4 — Go into system-mode

Play a game with yourself.

What makes things worse is emotion. When we are in a stressful situation and we rely on our emotions to guide us, we tend to overreact.

  • Take a step back.
  • Think about the appropriate actions to take, only those necessary.
  • Agree to revisit the emotional part of the situation later, so you don’t feel like you are ‘copping out’.

5 — Commit to a relaxation exercise

If you are stressed you cannot function.

I have been trying to minimize the major stress factors throughout my life.

I believe if you expose yourself to enough stressful life experiences you will eventually become more resilient.

Try laughing to start.

Commit to laughing every day.

If you have to watch a funny cat video, do it.

You can also keep a journal in which you record all your best laughs or funny moments.

Deep breathing is another easy one.

In with the good, out with the bad.

AAhhhhh…

Exercise is great. Pick your favorites, not something that you NEED to do.

It won’t be fun.

I suffered from severe anxiety for three years on my earlier journey and part of my coaching program using five natural biohacks addresses this specifically.

If you are calm you can accomplish more.

I fully recovered within three years. Might seem long, yet few people ever fully recover from anxiety, it is a goal well accomplished.

If you suffer from anxiety and have tried everything to no avail, you are welcome to reach out to me.

Unless you have experienced severe anxiety, you cannot know the hell someone lives in.

I used to imagine myself running into a wall to make the noise stop and sometimes I would go lie in the corner of a shower [without the water on] with my cheek against the cold stone where it was dark and I could ‘rest’ momentarily.

Feels surreal now.

Conclusion

Life is meant to be enjoyed!

We are designed to be happy.

It is our natural state.

Yet there are things happening around and inside of us, that can shake us up a bit.

In these times we need to know how to stay calm and reduce the anxiety that might show up because, in the long run, this can be really bad for our health and our mental state.

Here is a recap of the five ways to stay calm and reduce anxiety during the current world crises:

1 — Shut out the media

2 — Do not make radical decisions

3 — Focus on your highest excitement

4 — Go into system-mode

5 — Commit to a relaxation exercise
