How to create an unlisted post on Medium

As I first noted in my article about “secret” Medium posts, you can publish an unlisted Medium article. Unlisted stories will not appear in the home feed, profile page, tag page, or search on Medium, nor will they appear in notifications or email digests.
However, if you are mentioned in an unlisted Medium post by another author, you will still see this notification in your Medium profile:

Note: I have redacted the author’s name, avatar, and full post title to maintain their privacy.
These posts look like a standard post but have the unlisted symbol next to the author name:

To share an unlisted story, simply share the URL of the post. Unlisted stories are not password protected, and anyone who has the link will be able to view the post. This means that while they may be relatively private (non-indexed), you should not put confidential information in an unlisted post.
So what are some good uses of unlisted posts?
- You can utilize an unlisted post as a landing page of sorts, since you can direct people to the page’s URL but only those with the URL will see it.
- You could use it to store bonus content that you give others access to.
- It can be a good way to share information with family or friends, for free!
How do you create an unlisted post on Medium?
To Make a Medium Post Unlisted:
- Enter edit mode either by starting a new draft, or by visiting your story page, clicking the button in the top-right corner and choosing Edit story.
- In edit mode, click the menu icon in the top-right corner of the page.
- From the drop-menu, click Manage unlisted setting.

4. Click Yes to the question “Make this story unlisted?”.

5. Click Save and proceed to publish your story.
You should see the following message after you publish you story:
