How To Manage Your Time As A High School Student

Are you struggling to find the right balance between your academic workload and your personal life? As a high school student, it can be challenging to manage your time effectively. From daily homework assignments to long-term projects and extracurricular activities, it can feel like there’s never enough time in the day.
But don’t worry, in this blog, I’ll share some strategies that have helped me stay organized and productive, so you can tackle your to-do list with ease.
Importance of effective time management
If you master effective time management, your high school experience will be much easier and more relaxed.
Anki: A Powerful Study Tool
Anki is a flashcard app that uses active recall and spaced repetition for long-term learning.
I already made a blog about Anki, so you can check it out if you’re interested.
Avoid Cramming
Cramming is very bad for your well-being because you study for a long time and often lose sleep that your body needs. A huge problem is the drastic forgetfullness rate on the next days.
You can use spaced repetition to repeat your studies every day, so you remember them over time and don’t forget them easily.
Balancing Your Study Routine
You should balance your time for studying by taking breaks and doing other activities to balance your life.
One technique for managing time is the Pomodoro technique, which I already made a video about.
Finding Your Study Strategy
Everybody is different, so there is not only one strategy. You must try out what works best for you. I definitely find that active recall and spaced repetition are the best methods. Maybe they also work for you.
What doesn’t work
Methods that definitely don’t work are just writing your exam material.
Prioritize Morning Studying
You should study if possible in the morning when your brain is fresh. Then you can do activities later in the day that don’t take too much brain power. You also often don’t run the risk of having no motivation.
Studying earlier can be easier by having the right morning routine.
Utilizing Digital Flashcards
Using digital flashcards can be very useful. You can use them everywhere and don’t need to carry physical flashcards.
You can use Anki for free, which offers many types of flashcards.
Use Your Dead Time
Every person has some dead time during the day, some people more, some less. This is a great opportunity to review your digital flashcards during this time.
For example, if you’re waiting for your bus, you can use this time to study on your phone. If you don’t want to study, you can also just read a book.
If you want to know more about dead time read this blog.
Setting Daily Priorities
You can only be really successful if you set your daily priorities and accomplish them.
So make your daily priorities the evening before the next day or in the morning. I personally do it in the morning. So just accomplish these tasks, and you can be proud of yourself. So it is not so crucial if you don’t complete all tasks. The Eisenhower Matrix is, for example, a great way to separate your tasks into four categories.
Start today with implement one or more of these strategies for more time and better overall well-being.
