How To Kickstart Your Creative Genius
Get your creative spirit flowing again.

You know how it rolls…. You’re a busy bee, creating away.
And then BOOM!
Nothing.
Nada.
You’re totally out of creative juices. It’s like your creative world is in a severe drought.
Don’t panic. It happens to everyone.
And it’s super simple to get your creative spirit soaring high in no time.
Below you’ll find some tasks that will guide you towards being able to express yourself freely once more.
1. Do nothing
That’s right. Take a complete break away from everything.
Go for a holiday if you’ve got the time and money. Or go for a walk if not.
Allow yourself the freedom for 1 hour, 1 day, or 1 week to do nothing at all. This includes focusing on the fact that your creativity is at a stand still. Just let it all go for what ever time you can. Free up that space in your mind and heart. Allow yourself to simply BE.
2. Look for inspiration in unusual places
This can be as easy as going for a walk around an unfamiliar neighbourhood, or eating at a new café. Open your eyes and mind to something out of the ordinary. Often we can become stuck in all the daily regularity that we can’t see uniqueness any longer. Change your view, literally.
If you always read romance novels, swap to a thriller instead. Turn off the TV and listen to the radio for a change. Take a drive out of the city, and take your camera along. You’ll be surprised at the inspiration you find along the way. Take time looking back over your photos once you return home — you don’t know what journey these images will take you on.
3. Be grateful
I know this sounds so cliché. But honestly, when you acknowledge all the good in your life you will be surprised by how many things are going really well. Even this creative drought is a blessing in disguise.
As Charlotte Bronte said: “Gratitude is a divine emotion: It fills the heart, but not to bursting; it warms it, but not to fever.”
4. Exercise
You probably hear this a lot. Yet I bet you’re still not moving your body as much as you should be. Am I right? When you exercise oxygen travels around your body, your blood is pumping, your muscles working, bones strengthening and your mind is expanding. Go for it. Sitting around won’t stimulate your creative spirit. But moving your body will.
5. Brain-storm & collaborate
Get together with family, friends, or like-minded creatives and brainstorm ideas together. You’ll be amazed at what people come up with, especially if they’re not already in the same field as you. Join forces with other creatives. You may consider writing an article together, working on a large piece of artwork together, or designing a campaign or festival that showcases your skills and expertise.
Honestly, the scenarios for boosting your creative spirit are endless.
Next time you grind to a creative halt just stop what you’re doing and think outside the box. And if all else fails, take a moment to contemplate on this magical quote by civil rights activist, poet, and memoirist Maya Angelou:
“This is a wonderful day. I’ve never seen this one before.”
I wish you endless days of creative flow.
