How To Be A Powerful Creator In 7 Steps
Expand your capacity to create, and learn 3 things that will stifle your creative flow.
I’m a writer.
I’m creating every time I put pen to paper, and my fingers hit the keyboard. As a person whose income relies on being creative it is important that I keep those creative sparks alive.
There are times when ideas seem to rush forth like a burst dam. Your pen is barely keeping up with your brain as information is downloading at lightning speed.
And then BOOM! Your brain is as dry and barren as the Sahara.
It happens to everyone who creates as part of their craft. Sometimes you are simply stuck for words.
So, I set myself a mission 8 months ago to become a strong creator in my craft, and I want to share those steps with you today.
Become a powerful creator:
1. Find time to meditate each day. Even 15 minutes will make a difference. Meditation welcomes in stillness. You can’t stop your thoughts, but you can choose to cease focusing on them. Take your awareness to the sounds you hear, or your breath gently flowing in and out of your body. Meditation allows you to experience a deep calm. This clears out the mind chatter and provides the perfect environment for fresh ideas to incubate.
2. Move your body. Exercise gets the blood pumping and raises your heart rate. It helps oxygen and nutrients travel throughout your body, and strengthens your heart and lungs. When you stretch and breathe into the stretch (as you would in yoga) you create space for energy to freely flow, and new ideas begin to drop into your awareness.
3. Journalling. I love writing in my journal. It’s a practice that has been part of my daily routine for many years now. It is the perfect way to empty thoughts and emotions out and clear the way for new ones to emerge. The best part is that your journal will never argue back and simply allows you to vent, muse, love, create whatever comes to mind. I enjoy reading back over my entries. You will be absolutely surprised by what you have written. Journalling is a perfect tool for generating new thoughts and perspectives.
4. Eat well. Now you can roll your eyes at me if you like, but I strongly believe that a whole food plant-based way of eating has helped my creativity flourish. Whole plant foods are clean, and life-giving. You are feeding your body and mind with nourishing foods, and your soul is blooming with loving kindness towards all beings and Mother Earth. You honestly can’t expect to be a powerhouse of creativity when your food is out of pace with the flow of life.
5. Read every day. Reading widely is imperative for anyone who wants to be creative. Books, blogs, articles, all spark your imagination. Often I read someone else’s article on Medium and it gets me thinking, or brings to light a long-forgotten memory. This gives me fuel for my next article. Reading is the perfect way to inspire fresh ideas, and broaden your perspective.
6. Experience something new. Let’s face it, Covid and lockdowns were tough to get through. I found those couple of years really tested my ability to write. So, when lockdowns finally ended, and we could begin travelling again, it was a breath of fresh air. Go to new places, engage in new activities, take a long weekend by the ocean — these provide excellent fodder for your brain.
7. Experiment. If you’re a writer, or artist in any medium, step outside your regular genre. Try out new techniques and change the narrative. It might not work, and that’s OK (at least your tried). Or, it might open your mind to brand new possibilities you had never thought about before. Give it a go.
You’ve got a great foundation here to inspire creative genius.
Creativity is enormously powerful.
It helps us to heal, believe, design, educate, and problem solve.
While Mark Twain can argue that there is no such thing as an original idea (which may well be true), tapping into your creative flow allows you to put your magic touch, your unique perspective on any topic at all.
“Creativity is seeing what others see and thinking what no one else ever thought” ~ Albert Einstein.
Now, let’s have a quick look at 3 ways to kill creativity in a flash:
1. Feeling overwhelmed. Nothing dampens creative flow faster than being stressed out and overwhelmed. When tight deadlines are looming and your workload is overflowing, it is near impossible to even have the energy to think, let alone create. How can you better manage overwhelm? One solution might be to extend out some of your deadlines, or find someone who can share the workload with you.
2. Lack of a routine. If you find yourself chasing your tail all day it will be really difficult to find motivation and inspiration anywhere. Make a plan. Every evening I plan out the following day and make some really brief notes on what I want to write about. When I wake up, I know what I expect of myself before I even get out of bed.
3. Negative self-talk. It’s way too easy to talk yourself out of anything. “I should go for a walk and then start writing. But don’t I deserve a break, watch some TV and eat chocolate cookies?” Sound familiar? Motivate yourself to cultivate a shift in mindset. This will boost your confidence and inspire your creative flow.
Embrace your creative spirit.
The ability to create is nothing short of pure joy. How magnificent is it when you have created something!
You write that article, find that solution, expand on an existing idea, or create a life filled with love.
You create your stories and your life. You choose what to include and leave out. Creativity is powerful as it informs and shapes your mind and inspires action in others.
You are a powerful creator.

P.S. Have you created something so magical and amazing that you don’t know how you did it? I’d love to hear about your experiences.
If you enjoyed my story, please clap, comment and share it with others. I would be very grateful.
