How to Achieve Your New Year’s Resolutions This Year
The Best Way to Plan and Achieve Your Goals

I personally don’t believe in New Year’s Resolutions, especially if it’s set during wintertime, which is not the natural time for our biorhythm to start something new or suddenly push ourselves harder.
However, I believe in achieving our goals if we take the right steps no matter the time of the year, and in this article, I want to share my secrets to achieving your goals this year.
If you haven’t read already, here’s an article where I talk about our natural rhythm in sync with nature and the right time to celebrate the beginning of a new year (SPRING):
Let’s get into the ways you can achieve your goals this year. These steps and concepts specifically worked for me in the past years to achieve my goals as a writer and screenwriter in Hollywood.
Write Down All Your Goals, Then Break Them Down
I’ve finally found an excellent method that works best for me to achieve my goals yearly. It’s about setting goals for the entire year and then breaking them down into smaller steps.
It sounds simple enough, but I want to share how to break it down in the best way.
Here are the steps:
- Write down all your goals for the year.
- Break the year down into four quarters. (1 quarter = 3 months)
- Break your goals down to fit into these four quarters.
- Then, break the quarters down to months, weeks, and then days.
Say your goal is to lose 20 kgs by the end of December 2024. Then you need to lose 5 kgs every 3 months. That breaks down to around 1.5–2 kgs each month.
Now, you can go ahead and tackle that goal more easily instead of pushing yourself to lose 20 kgs right away or set the goal for the entire year & hope for the best.
Put Your Vision Board Everywhere
I love making vision boards. I always talk about making vision boards. Here’s an efficient article to read for visualizing your goals.
A vision board is basically the visual representation of your goals and dreams for the year.
You can make a digital vision board, or you can make it by hand, print the photos, and hang it on your wall. I have both versions, and Pinterest is a great way to build a digital one.
But what’s most effective is to set your vision board as your desktop wallpaper and phone wallpaper.
When you see it every time you’re on your computer or phone, which is most of the time if you’re a writer like me, it reminds you why you’re working hard and will inspire you to keep going.
Consistency is Key
It’s evident that consistency is key, but remember, consistency doesn’t mean that you have to do the same thing for the same amount of time every single day.
I recently came across this diagram of consistency on TikTok, and I woke up to what consistency really means. Here’s my take on that diagram for you to understand better.

Here, most of you would say that consistency is number 1. But I’m starting to learn and accept that consistency is also 2.
Take meditation, for example. If one of your goals for this year is to be mindful and meditate every day, you might set a goal for yourself to meditate for at least 1 hour a day.
But some days, we can barely meditate for 10 minutes, and that’s totally acceptable as long as we are consistent with it.
Take exercise, for example. Some days, we don’t feel our best and might have muscle pain or body aches. Or we might have a cold or the flu.
But if you still did some exercise, some stretching, yoga, or if you went for a walk for 10 minutes that day, you still achieved something, and that’s still consistency.
This takes me to the last step of achieving your goals this year:
Don’t Be So Hard on Yourself
You’re doing the best you can. Some days, we have to rest. We’re not robots. Remember, we are humans.
And honestly, even robots need reset or recharge and regular updates. We need it, too.
Don’t be so hard on yourself when you don’t hit a particular goal right away. Know that big goals take time, and it’s actually good that they do.
The process of reaching our goals teaches us wonderful lessons that help us grow and become better people.
I hope this year is the year you finally hit your goals, get what you want, and achieve your dreams. Thank you for being here!
