Audio Drama Series You Need to Listen in 2024
Recommendations from a screenwriter

Audio drama series is like a TV Show, but it’s rather an immersive audio experience. I love listening to audio drama series, also known as fiction podcast series, because it expands my imagination.
Heavily depending on sound effects and voices, audio drama series takes you on a journey of unique storytelling. You imagine the way characters look, the locations, how they interact, and how the story unfolds.
Here are my favorite audio drama series, so you can listen to take a break away from reality and enjoy extraordinary stories. In the process, you will also support some good writers and storytellers❤
1. Motherhacker
Motherhacker is about a single mother with two kids who get involved in scamming people over the phone to take advantage of their vulnerability and steal from them. Think of the movie “Emily, the Criminal” starring Aubrey Plaza.
Seeing this character go down this road in order to afford to take care of her kids reminds us of the twisted reality of the current struggle in this economic environment, but in more of a fun way.
So, if you enjoyed “Emily, the Criminal” or would love a fun, relatable story, listen to Motherhacker.
2. Power Trip
The main character, Jane, is a hilarious and engaging character as she gets free drinks with her power and makes people do what she wants them to do while seamlessly taking us into her world.
Starring Tatiana Maslany from She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Orphan Black, Power Trip is about a woman who gets powers after getting a black-market kidney donation. Imagine Jane convincing people to give her free drinks or take her on exciting dates.
Tatiana Maslany has won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama, and she is an exceptional voice actress in Power Trip, too. Listening to her journey in Power Trip will take your pain away. Trust me!
3. The Carlötta Beautox Chronicles
A hilarious comedy and a realistic Hollywood story! The Carlötta Beautox Chronicles is about a wanna-be actress’s funny adventures in Hollywood.
I remember the episodes where Carlötta sneaks into a Hollywood party as a waitress and sees the real faces of celebrities. In another episode, Carlötta is invited to Cannes Film Festival, but turns out it’s not the Cannes we know…
Binge The Carlötta Beautox Chronicles if you want to get out of depression as fast as possible!
4. Bonnie Screws Up
Bonnie Screws Up is about a rising star who screws up her entire career because of a crush she has on a bartender. Binge Bonnie Messy Martinez’s adventures in Hollywood.
Not only did I write Bonnie Screws Up, but we also got a lot of positive feedback that I had to include the show in this list. If you need a mysterious, fun, and intriguing Hollywood story to take you out of this chaos that we call ‘real Hollywood,’ Bonnie Screws Up is just for you!
Binge Bonnie Screws Up and witness the up and downs of a Spanish actress’ career in Los Angeles. And hey, Season 2 is coming soon!
5. Royals of Malibu
Royals of Malibu is an interesting case. Mainly because the same ad keeps disturbing the flow of your beautiful dramatic show, especially when you are hooked the most. But I know how hard it is to continue making a show without sponsors, so give it a chance and quickly skip those ads for your own mental health.
Despite that, Royals of Malibu is about a strong girl who suddenly gets taken out of poverty and finds herself in Malibu with the Royal family, dropped in the middle of drama and dark secrets.
Listen to Royals of Malibu if you like a good love triangle, betrayal, and real fun!
6. Showmance
Showmance is a RomComPods production. This provides a fun ride with a story inspired by productions behind cooking shows, drama, and romance in the entertainment industry.
After getting dumped most horrifically and annoyingly, the main character travels to London for her dream job, “launching the British spin-off of the cooking TV show,” but she is looking to get over her ex and find new love, except her ex is still the head of production.
Showmance provides a captivating narrative that you can get lost in.
7. Immunities
This show is powerful, fun, and intriguing all at the same time! It has a similar concept to the book “Host” by Stephanie Meyer, but the story is deeper, exploring aspects of family, friends, and lovers.
In the world of Immunities, aliens have taken over Earth by taking over human bodies. So, people around you look the same; your mom, dad, siblings, lovers, and friends all look the same, but they are not them anymore.
A kind and intelligent alien species has taken them over. Immunities take us into the world of those immune to these alien species and are left behind to live in a colony, knowing they are colonized.
Immunities will surely take your mind off of things.
8. Memory Lane
Memory Lane is one of those shows where you keep wondering what happened to the main characters in the past, and you keep looking for those clues to figure it out yourself before the story finally reveals it.
This is a darker show compared to others on this list, but it’s very binge-worthy! I don’t want to say much about it, but it is from the writer behind the series Pretty Little Liars, so get ready for some psychological thriller about mothers, daughters, and Memory Lane.
I have been a binge audio drama listener since 2020, and they always keep me going. I put on my headphones at the gym, while cooking, or taking a walk out in nature, and let talented writers take me on a fun adventure.
Let me know in the comments if you’d like a list of self-help, filmmaking, screenwriting, art, and artist podcasts.
