How the Internet Commodified Perfection.
Freeing yourself from the exhaustion of constant inadequacy and the ideal of perfection.

The commodification of perfection has led our society down an unhealthy road. We’re pumped up on articles that tell us there’s a template for being happy and we have to hustle 24/7 if we want to succeed, and we can’t sleep past 5 am. The internet has become a giant shopping mall, where money and anti-materialism, endless hustle etc are all packaged up in bit sizes as a part of a new enlightenment.
Humans are inevitably flawed, messy, error-prone and inconsistent. And when we buy into an ideal of perfection, we feel constant inadequacy, exhaustion from the chase of ever-higher standards, and loss of meaning.
As imperfect, vulnerable human beings, we possess the remarkable ability to support each other in doing the best we reasonably can. The truth is, our best is always good enough. The pursuit of perfection only breeds discontent and robs us of the joy inherent in our unique, imperfect journeys.
The call to action is clear: let’s open the door to lasting well-being by rewriting the narrative. Instead of fostering an environment of cutthroat competition, let’s cultivate a culture of compassion. Instead of fixating on an unattainable ideal, let’s celebrate progress over perfection.
The commodification of perfection has fuelled a culture that thrives on comparison, judgment, and the perpetual dissatisfaction of never measuring up. It’s time to reclaim our narrative, redefine success, and find fulfilment in the journey rather than fixating on an elusive destination.
Waiting for the perfect moment or seeking permission to get started on our dreams is a fallacy perpetuated by the myth of perfection. The truth is, there is no perfect time, and waiting for it only prolongs the journey to our goals. The power lies not in waiting for the stars to align but in taking action, even imperfect, messy action.
Life is a series of imperfectly beautiful moments, not a quest for flawlessness. The choice is ours: to succumb to the pressures of an unrealistic standard or to embrace our imperfections and forge ahead with courage.
Perfection is a mirage that dissipates upon closer inspection, revealing the authenticity and beauty inherent in our unique selves. It’s time to redefine success not as the absence of flaws but as the acceptance of imperfections and the courage to take action despite them.
So, let’s challenge the status quo, defy the allure of perfection, and choose a path of action over perfection. The journey to well-being, balance, and authentic meaning begins with the understanding that imperfection is not the enemy but an intrinsic part of our humanity. The choice is ours — let’s seize it.
