The Power of Poetry
How The Green Light Changed My Life

“How do I begin when so many of my thoughts are lost in you? You are not who I thought you were, nor the one I made up in my head. You’re just a stranger, yet to be found. But still, the most important person in my life.”
The green light is a question. An agreement One too quick to answer One too fast to catch An emotion held in the eyes of a girl That disappears into an apartment building Leaving me standing alone At six pm, when my shift starts The green light is a question that I asked myself As I stood at six pm when my shift starts.

It has meaning and value. And gives hope to those who need it most.
It means a new beginning. And hope for the future.
It never ends. It travels the whole world…to help those in need.
“Y’all know what that is?” I asked. “The green light,” they all said together. “That’s one of his favorite things to write poems about,”
they told me as they guided me down the hall.
“He thinks it’s essential, and he doesn’t want us to forget how we feel about it. We’re never supposed to forget that.”
That’s why they say they love it. They stand up for it. They believe in it. “We’ve got to keep remembering how we feel about the green light,” they said. They hugged me, and each embraced one of their friends with them as a sign of solidarity and support because that’s what good friends are for, to show solidarity when you’re down and to give you hope when you feel lost.
Poetry is everywhere 💚 But the question is, how much do you love it?
