I Earned $10 on Medium This Month — That’s a 162% Increase

Writing on Medium is just one layer of creating a total passive income stream that you can retire on.

Here is how publishing on Medium fits in:

I’m creating a new income stream with multiple revenue sources. One of my goals is to sell my Beehiiv daily newsletter website once it surpasses 10,000 subscribers. This newsletter focuses on how to articles and tutorials on artificial intelligence tools, and I plan to focus on AI tools that offer monthly passive income through referrals.

In essence, I am working with AI startups that empower their sales team and market growth through affiliate programs, and my earning from readership on Medium is very small slice of the passive income, as we’ll talk about shortly.

My favorite AI Tools are the startups that pay a monthly commission for as long as the customer continues using the product.

This way, if I give the customer really good training on the product and it gets to be a part of their work routine, not only will I continue to earn revenue, but this person is very likely to subscribe to my email newsletter for other tutorials on new AI Tools. (Even better, they may forward my newsletter to a friend and get the MindMap Bonus.)

Planning In Advance To Sell

I’ve started with a Bit.ly account to collect all the referral links from these affiliate programs for AI Tools. These shortened links will be used in the newsletter. When I sell the newsletter, the new owner can take over this dedicated bit.ly account and they can easily replace my affiliate links with theirs. This provides the new newsletter owner with an immediate audience of over 10,000 subscribers, the added benefit of search engine traffic — plus potentially hundreds of great tutorials that are referring a steady stream of new buyers to the AI Tool Chest.

So I’m already planning the revenue from that sale, perhaps a year from now. That is guiding my daily work plans.

With that end in mind, I know that every newsletter issue needs to be top quality. Every support article on Medium has to really provide value. As I’m creating each of the tutorials that will get me to my goal, I need to FEEL like that payday is today — as I’m doing the grind to polish each post to perfection.

I’m going to do this plan every day and I’m going to FEEL the achievement of this end goal, even if my audience is really small for now…

How the Newsletter Builds into a Regular Production of Books:

Every 10 days, the email newsletter website produces 10 different sequential business plan tutorials focused on the AI Tools I’m using and teaching about. These 10 step-by-step business plans are then grouped into a book for sale on Amazon.

One Book Earning Half a Million Per Year

There is a HUGE audience for ChatGPT training because it is so new.

And as I’m doing the research and planning the sequence of email newsletter publications to result in a book — I realize it requires more forethought and more ideas than I have on my own.

So I got into more detailed research that I collected into a spreadsheet for when the actual content is created. Then I went back into planning mode again, and then finally I could get to writing.

and was totally shocked by these numbers!

The more I read these resources, the more I realize the work I’ve been doing is different and valuable because I’m showing step-by-step how-to-use AI Tools rather than introducing that the tools are here.

I believe there is a hungry audience for the practical plans — if I package the step-by-step tutorials and walk throughs so they are helpful for many different business plans… well then, lets do it and share the sales numbers.

The lessons that I create have to be easy to use and consume, and they have to stack together like Legos, so a small business owner can follow the series to create something larger.

Build The Big Picture

I’ve been using ChatGPT to help me take the base ideas and create a larger project plan, segmenting content into tutorials that outline a three hour work plan, and make those plans build into 10-piece segments.

For example;

I’m planning to release a new book with these ten mini-business plans.

This means I will publish a business plan every day and a new book every two weeks.

These books have referral links, but they aren’t tied to the bit.ly account. So, when the email newsletter sells, the books remain my revenue stream.

How Medium Enables an Extra Layer of Revenue and Promotion:

Medium is a platform where I can republish my beehiiv email newsletter issues into popular Medium publications, extending the reach of each issue. I can grow my audience on Medium while earning another revenue stream. I can place my referral links and tutorials on Medium as well as in the newsletter.

Power Tip I Just Learned

I can create my own dedicated Medium publication, a mini-net of topical articles that link back to my email newsletter. By using my referral links in the navigation for this mini-net Medium publication, I can increase my earnings that are generated from Medium — but do not show up on the ‘how much I made on Medium’ data. (copy my setup if you are curious)

Medium is a much smaller revenue stream, but it is massively important for growing the real revenue streams.

Ways to Take Action and Grow Your Medium Followers:

One crucial activity is to follow other people daily until reaching the maximum follower limit. It’s essential to be selective and follow those whose profiles match your niche keywords. Limit your followership to existing Medium members, identifiable by the little star beside their name. Especially follow those listed as book publishers.

Checking the followers of top influencers in your niche can help identify quality individuals to follow.

Aim to add the full 150 people limit daily.

On Medium, I can actively engage with content, leading to high-quality followers. I aim to connect with audiences likely to use my 20 different AI products.

Ways to Take Action to Grow Your LinkedIn Followers:

LinkedIn is another platform to grow your business. Two components make LinkedIn a high-quality source for finding email subscribers for my newsletter.

First, I can follow companies, review their employees, and invite connections.

This approach allows me to connect with employees from the 15 to 20 companies that my email newsletter represents. Listing myself as a remote based freelance employee for the companies that I am promoting on my LinkedIn profile, boosts my credibility and offers a place to feature my referral link.

On LinkedIn, I can send personalized connection requests with compliments, resulting in genuine connections. After they accept the connection request, I invite them to follow my business page on LinkedIn.

Medium + LinkedIn = High-Quality Subscribers

NOW I am almost ready to start talking about using the AI Tools within the online marketing business plans for various niches.

Now I can start creating Newsletters and republish them into Medium.

For example, here is a recent post for campground operators, fishing lodges, canoe trip guides, and other outdoor adventure companies.

The Real Money

As people read my articles and find these tools useful, they’ll purchase the useful AI Tool, and I’ll earn a commission, each month, for as long as they find the tool helpful.

In essence, every Newsletter article and every Medium post is designed to have multiple revenue streams - and earnings from activity on Medium are the icing on the cake.

Both LinkedIn and Medium users who subscribe to my email newsletter will be creating a high-quality readership.

This ensures a responsive list with good open rates and more people who are following the tutorials to make use of these AI Tools to improve and expand their business. And I’ll have an audience to notify when my new books launch on Amazon. Each asset piece helps grow the others.
