How I Maintain My Respiratory Health & Live With Abundant Energy
After learning to oxygenate my cells properly, my energy levels skyrocketed, making me more joyful, creative, and productive.

I have long been aware of oxygen's critical role in our cells and respiratory health. However, encountering COVID-19 in 2022 underscored the significance of respiratory health to me. Although I recovered in six days thanks to an excellent immune system, during that time, I felt unusual issues with breathing. The situation taught me the criticality of proper breathing and made me more cautious. Therefore, I decided to write this important story.
Ensuring a constant supply of oxygen in our bodies is vital for the seamless operation of our cells, tissues, organs, and systems. Oxygen powers our body’s intricate machinery, fueling critical organs like the brain and heart and essential systems, including the immune, nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, and digestive systems.
The absence of oxygen, even for a few brief minutes, is enough to jeopardize our existence, as every cell and tissue constantly relies on this essential element. Insufficient oxygen, for a short duration, leads to tissue suffocation and, ultimately, death.
Thus, maintaining an optimal oxygen level in our bodies cannot be overstated, as it plays a pivotal role in our well-being. Serious health issues can arise when oxygen levels dip below a certain threshold.
To understand the mechanics of oxygen distribution, we can focus on the respiratory system (comprising the lungs) and the cardiovascular system (centered around the heart), which collaborate seamlessly to meet the body’s demand for oxygen.
Our lungs are the gatekeepers of our oxygen supply, extracting air from our surroundings and infusing it into our bloodstream. The heart is the distributor, pumping oxygen-rich blood to our organs and tissues.
This symbiotic relationship ensures that every cell receives the vital oxygen it requires. Any disruption in the harmony between the respiratory and cardiovascular systems can have profound consequences for oxygen distribution, leading to serious health issues.
If complications arise in the lungs or the heart, we feel lethargic and stressed and face other health problems like brain fog. Thus, understanding the critical relationship of these systems sheds light on the importance of maintaining optimal oxygen levels for our survival and sustained health.
As I have written numerous stories about the healing of the lungs, heart, brain, and other organs, including endocrine and cellular health before, I will not repeat them in this story. My goal is to highlight a few key points to enhance our respiratory health and give some tips from my experience.
How I Maintained Optimal Respiratory Health
The best thing for me in my younger years was quitting smoking quickly, as it was the most significant risk factor for my respiratory health. As soon as I stopped smoking, I breathed much more easily, gained more energy, slept better, and enjoyed my life more.
Another unknown risk factor in my formative years was nutritional deficiencies. I had no idea some nutrients could play a role in respiratory health. My biggest issue was vitamin B12 deficiency, causing me anemia. This issue was related to hemoglobin, which I explained in a previous article. Vitamin B12 is essential for red blood cell formation.
Hemoglobin, a protein, is like a special courier in our bodies, carried by red blood cells. Its job is crucial. It grabs oxygen from our lungs and delivers it to every nook and cranny, ensuring our cells, tissues, and organs get the oxygen they need to function properly.
When hemoglobin levels drop, trouble brews. The body cannot get enough oxygen, leading to anemia. Signs of anemia include pale skin, tiredness, weakness, shortness of breath, dizziness, and a fast heartbeat.
After fixing nutritional deficiencies, my anemia and metabolic issues were resolved. When my metabolism started functioning, I found more energy to exercise, which was another factor in improving my respiratory health.
Learning about the importance of aerobic and anaerobic exercises for heart, brain, and lung health, I focussed on Vo2Max training, which took my respiratory health to another level. Swimming, scuba diving, jogging barefoot, and bike riding significantly contributed to increasing my Vo2max and respiratory capacity.
VO2max testing is a highly accurate measure of aerobic (cardiovascular) fitness, considered the gold standard in the fitness industry. It assesses an athlete’s maximum capacity to use oxygen during exercise.
VO2max testing provides valuable information about cardiovascular fitness and helps us gauge endurance capacity. The testing process for VO2max involves precise measurement of our breathing, including the oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in the air we inhale and exhale. This test is typically conducted on a treadmill or stationary bike.
Athletes’ VO2max is determined when their oxygen consumption remains constant, even as the exercise intensity increases. Depending on different devices, it is measured in liters per minute (L/min) or milliliters per kilogram of body weight per minute (mL/kg/min/). To give you an idea, as documented in this paper, “An elite marathoner exhibits a high VO2max of more than 80 ml/kg/min.”
When I discussed other improvement methods in health communities, apart from thermogenesis from cold showers and dry saunas, I came across the concept of diaphragmatic breathing.
As pointed out in this paper, it affects the brain and the cardiovascular, respiratory, and gastrointestinal systems by modulating autonomic nervous functions. It has the potential to be a non-pharmacological treatment for patients with stress disorder and chronic respiratory disease.
I only needed a breathing device in 2022. However, I knew that a crucial aspect of respiratory well-being involves regularly monitoring oxygen saturation levels, particularly for patients with respiratory conditions. I was fortunate our Covid clinic gave us a portable pulse oximeter, which was a practical solution for at-home monitoring, facilitating timely interventions when necessary.
Fortunately, I always had optimal blood pressure and an excellent heart condition, but some family members experienced hypertension and other heart issues affecting their lungs. For them, we had to purchase oxygen delivery systems, which solved their issues at home.
Home oxygen therapy is a common treatment for people experiencing hypoxia or hypoxemia. Oxygen concentrators are devices that can be used at home to provide a controlled flow of oxygen to help raise oxygen levels in the blood.
These machines filter and concentrate oxygen from the air, delivering it through nasal prongs or a mask. However, healthcare professionals should prescribe and monitor home oxygen therapy in severe cases. Self-diagnosis and self-treatment for hypoxia or hypoxemia are not advisable.
The prompt pursuit of medical attention is critical when faced with respiratory symptoms, chest pain, or signs of potential oxygenation issues. Early intervention is pivotal, as it can effectively impede the progression of both hypoxia and hypoxemia, protecting overall health and well-being.

Ensuring a constant supply of oxygen is vital for the seamless functioning of our bodies. Every cell, tissue, organ, and system relies on oxygen to sustain life. Maintaining optimal oxygen levels is pivotal for overall well-being, as a dip below the threshold can result in serious health issues like hypoxia or hypoxemia. Oxygen is critical for cerebral blood flow.
Taking care of our blood oxygen saturation levels and improving oxygenation can strengthen our heart, brain, lungs, and immune system and lower the risks of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases. Preventing imbalances can improve physical vitality, cognitive function, and mental health.
Recognizing the symptoms of hypoxia and hypoxemia, adopting proactive measures, and seeking prompt, professional assistance are necessary for our survival and overall well-being. In simple terms, our existence hinges on oxygen, and even a brief deprivation can be life-threatening.
Preserving optimal respiratory health is paramount for overall well-being. Oxygenation refers to adding oxygen to the blood and distributing it to the body parts for cellular respiration. This process occurs when the bloodstream carries oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body.
Getting checked for sleep apnea is essential. As pointed out in a paper in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology: “The hallmark of sleep apnea is recurrent episodes of hypoxemia and arousals throughout the night. Sleep apnea has been strongly associated with heart failure.”
