How I Got Over 600 Followers In 25 Days
I started with Medium a mere 25 days ago. I was fed up with Vocal and didn’t feel much of a connection there. I heard great things about Medium so one day I jumped ship. I didn’t look back. I feel the love here. When I get the emotional connection, I write more. So if you are a newbie like I was once before, here are some tips that helped me get 629 followers as of December 8.
Write
Step 1 is easy to do. Write several articles. If you haven’t written in a while, take your time. It’s not a race. My first article dealt with my life with my Mom, who is currently suffering from dementia. I wrote about how she comes alive around music. The next day, I wrote about the fascinating topic of numerology. I explored whether people could tell their life path by using their date of birth. I found some great insights. See this article here.
ENGAGE
After I wrote my articles, I proceeded in posting to Facebook’s Medium groups and asked for people to exchange reads with me. I got many reads but failed to get followers. I then proceeded to read articles about followers and commented that I, too, needed followers, and would be happy to follow back. I also wrote an article about my need to get 100 followers, which got a big response. I got my 100 followers in 5 days! This is a big deal to me! However, I have noticed that some hardworking writers get followers in as little as 24 hours! Please don’t compare yourself to others. Everyone is different. In the beginning, I followed lots of people and hoped for a random follow back. However, it seemed the best method for me is to continue with an approach that involved reading other people’s articles about how they received followers and engaging wholeheartedly with the writer as well as the readers. I clapped and commented as well as stated outright that I am a new writer and hoped to be in the Medium Partner Program and needed followers. I also mentioned that I would reciprocate if they needed help, too.
Write About The Following Process
I wrote another article about how I ended up with 200 followers. This triggered a lot of interest in new writers. Almost every day, I get messages from new writers hoping to reach the magic number of 100. I gently remind them that new writers have to read more articles and engage with the Medium community. I get the odd request from new writers asking me to follow them first when they haven’t even followed me at all. If you did that with a publication, they would not consider you to be a writer. You would need to follow the publication first, then ask to be added as a writer.
Join Publications
I started to join a few publications like New Writers Welcome, Coffee Times, Illumination's Mirror, Writers’ Blokke, and The Orange Journal because I wanted more readership. I have learned a lot from reading other writers, clapping, and engaging as much as I can.
Passive Followers
Based on my methods outlined above, I get followers on a daily basis. I counted 20 new followers yesterday. My ability to get new followers daily is to continue to write and give updates about my journey on Medium. I also aim to write new content on a daily basis, but this has dwindled a bit due to my side hustles.
I wish all new writers on Medium the best of luck. Please follow me for the latest stories and get on my email list to be the first to receive my latest article. If you need help, I am always willing to help new writers needing followers. Engage with me and follow first, of course.
