How Global Moms Unite For Justice

Global moms of United Sates, Russia, Mexico, Cuba, and more advocating for justice for children and loved ones

There is power when women stand up together to be heard but the power is magnified when you add to this equation mothers making their voices heard globally on behalf of police brutality, injustice, systemic racism, along with murder, the plots thickened beyond the wildest imagination. When fearless energy stepped up to the plate, the game was on and in their favor. Mothers rule because everyone had or has one. Mothers come in all flavors and ethnicity. Globally, moms are fighting against opposition of the government, challenging law enforcement authority and systemic racism.

George Floyd cry for his mother as the breath left his body under the knee of police officer Chauvin, touched the hearts of many mothers as all are determined while George called for his mother, they heard and now heed his cry.

United States, Portland, Oregon, Moms, aka, “Moms against police brutality” or “Wall of Moms” or “Momtifa” marched in Portland, Oregon making their voices heard against police brutality and the removal of federal agents who were perpetuating a negative energy with their unmarked persona. They sought restraining order against federal agents who actively confronted #BlackLlivesMatter Movement due to their unlawful acts of detaining peaceful demonstrators. Without identifying themselves, these agents just grabbed people and took them in for questioning or fined them. Clearly these were tactics of deterring and intimidation from their 1st Amendment right to peacefully demonstrate. One victim is suing these agents for unlawful detainment and arrest. Forty two people had been arrested. All of Portland, citizens and officials opposed the presence of those unidentified agents. So why are they still there? Administrative Dictatorship.

Calls for removal by all the people, citizens, mayor and governor of those federal agents fell on deaf ears in the courts and the white house. This prompted mothers to unite. Mothers joined with their bikes, helmet and goggles called themselves “Wall of Moms” linked arms in protest to form a barrier of protection agents federal unlawful agitating the peace protesters so they could retaliate and justify their actions with tear gas. They are making their voices heard to save the children of the future after seeing all the media about the violence occurring in Portland along with the many deaths before and after George Floyd. Many were joined by their spouses and dads who used leaf blowers to help in keeping the tear gas away from protesters.

Cuba, the mothers, aka “Damas de Blanco”, Ladies in white founded in 2003 by the wives and female relatives of seventy five dissidents imprisoned on treason charges during Cuba’s Black Spring, including other professionals, i.e. doctors, journalists and teachers. Over the years, they have taken up the fight against the incarcerations with a sit-in dressed in white at St. Rita’s Church, later marching through the streets. 2011 highlight, seventy five imprisoned dissidents were freed and went into exile in Spain. The struggle and fight with them continued seeking the release of all political prisoners. For their efforts, they were awarded in 2018, the Milton Friedman Prize for Advancing Liberty, a $250,000 award, from the Cata Institute, Washington, D.C.

Argentina’s mothers, “Las Madres de la Plaza de Mayo” started protesting in 1977 demonstrating outside Buenos Aires government palace wearing white headscarves symbolized the diapers of their missing children as they demanded to know what happened to their love ones (30,000), at the hand of the military dictatorship between 1976–1983 in detention camps. In the face of danger, many continued the fight as three of the groups’ members were abducted, drugged, loaded onto a plane, and later thrown in the Atlantic. For the many babies that had been taken from the disappeared and raised by military families had been reunited with their biological living relatives due to the groups efforts. Their action had brought former military officials to court. 2017, tens of thousands demonstrators protested in garb against the early release of the many convicted of crimes against humanity.

Ukraine, mothers and widows unite after the rebels retreated on a peace agreement with the Ukrainian officials, hundreds of Ukrainian troops were shot . The mothers and widows of these massacred servicemen who were killed a the Battle of Ilovaisk hold memorial rallies in front of the Russian Embassy in Kyiv, yearly carrying their country’s yellow and blue flag along with photos of their loved ones as they hold memorial rallies commemorating the battle’s anniversary, with red balloons representing bloodshed by their love, in front of the gates of the Russian Embassy. They also formed sub groups to come to the aid of military families personnel.

Russia, mothers, aka, Soldiers’ Mothers Committee, 100 members strong, formed to protect young Russians conscripts from hazing and other forms of army brutality years before the Chechen war between Russian and Chechen in 1994 as they sought their independence. This committee in a 56-mile anti-war march was not deterred by snow and strong winds as they carried placards that stated, “War in Chechnya Is a Shame,” and “Bring Our Sons Home.” As conflict continued, hundreds of women poured into the region seeking the release of their sons from Chechen prisons or to retrieve their bodies.

Mexico, Mother’s Day is a day of protest by mothers and wives for the disappearance of tens of thousands of people who have gone missing since former President Felipe Calderon launched a “was on drugs” in 2006. They protest with T-shirts with photos of their love ones as they march through the capital and other parts of the country. Moving yet forward, they banded together to find missing love ones by combing through mass graves. Even in the face of much suffering, they are faced with threats from organized crime and corrupt government officials, and critical family members, they proceed to get justice for their loved ones.

In conclusion, these are just a few of global mothers who have taken the mantel demanding justice for their loved ones as they make their voice heard loud and clear demanding change in the many defunct governmental offices, military forces and all the other institutions of suppression. These mothers are not and will not deterred in the face of fear because the fear of not doing is what really drives them. They are fearless and there is no stopping or turning back, until all are treated fairly.
