How Politics make Strange Bed fellow, Goya Invited to the White House
Some invitations are to be declined and not accepted at all cost
Mr. Robert Unanue, the grandson of Goya founder and now the CEO is of Latin descent.
Question 1: Why was he invited at this particular election time?
Question 2: Could it have something to do with his future campaign stops in Arizona and Florida that just happened to have a large population of Latinos?
Question 3: Could this be a ploy to get the Latino vote?
Goya, self-proclaimed largest Hispanic-owned food company in the United states listed 2500 products, including seasonings, cooking oils, beans, frozen products and snacks, staples for the Latin America community.
What happens when fans are betrayed at a moment when support is more crucial than ever, there is systemic racism, social unrest, pandemic, COVID-19, no vaccine yet, unemployment, an all time high, lack of stimulus money , renters can’t pay rent, mortgage payments defaulting, EDD payments delayed, masks and social distancing an issue, cops and karens out of control, politicians self serving, while bullying is the rule of the day and the land.
Just as the world struggles to makes sense of all that is happening, struggling to stay afloat, trying to balance life, all got knocked off their feet once again, Goya jumps in the midst of chaos and declares support for a president whose rating has sunk an all time low every single day for any president in history. Trump’s new 43% approval rating marks the steepest decline between two Gallup polls since the start of his presidency. It’s down from last month’s 49% approval rating — a rating he also held in early 2020. Given this fact, why would anyone want to jump in this sinking bed?
As I listened to the news, suddenly there was this bold cry, “Goya praises Trump for doing a great job!” I couldn’t believe my ears, I assumed I heard wrong until I googled Goya and saw in writing that this was indeed true.
Sadly, I used to be a fan many years ago. I no longer eat any can foods but held them in high regards for who ever chose to indulge. My can food intake is minimum, can tuna, primarily. This is not about whether you should eat or not eat can foods, this not the issue. The issue here is that Goya has betrayed the very people who have fed its pockets for years from one generation to another in the Latino population.
As I sat frozen in shocked of this situation, then I heard of the boycott against Goya and then I thought, “Yes!” This was music to my ears. As Goya Foods CEO stepped into the Trump political minefield as he promised to donate more food to the needed. “Really, Mr. CEO!?” He’s gets in bed with the devil and tosses beans to his loyal Latino base, guess this makes it alright. This was a slap in the face. Beans along doesn’t make all happy but where loyalty lies. Now, the writing is on the wall for all to read. Well wake up Mr. CEO, this is a new day and people can see through this horrific act of betrayal.
I am going to do some speculating here. Who are buying these Goya products? Are they the wealthy or poor working class? Hispanic and Latino cuisine is comprised of Goya products. Are these consumers pro Trump while he’s trying to cutout Obamacare for no healthcare, playing with DACA lives, now sending foreign students back to their countries, separating families at the Mexico borders, and degrading comments?
Every single day this current administration start fires that disrupts lives for so many and now Goya has added to the supercharged political perilous landscape that leaves most of their devoted consumers off centered and left with no choice but to make their voices heard, boycott.
“We’re all truly blessed, at the same time, to have a leader like President Trump who is a builder.” Robert Unanue, CEO of Goya Foods. Really? Blessed? Builder?

Builder??? According to Webster dictionary, a builder is one who constructs something by putting parts or material together over a period of time. The last time I checked, everything that Trump’s hands had touched from business, tings, places and people, had turned into one hot mess. There were so many lawsuits, I lost count. There is so much wrong with this current president I can’t begin to share all there and must stay focused on Goya’s actions. Goya actions have added to the woes of many, unnecessarily. Even Trump’s niece denounced him as unfit for office while Trump’s sister labeled him a clown. Did Goya, not get the memo!?
Yes, Goya had been known for having a tremendous loyal following, well Mr. CEO, now that you have thrown your Goya hat into this horrendous political arena of hatred and discrimination, well shame on you. No good will come of your actions but your pockets with the boycott should suffer as the boycott proceeds.
Mr. Robert Unanue, is the grandson and CEO of the founder who were immigrants from Spain. Being an immigrant, I wondered what is grandfather thinking of his actions today? Probably, “Have you lost your senses, where’s the loyalty to the base?”
#Boycottgoya #Goyafoods #goyaway, these hashtags emerged from the boycotts who cited Trump’s history of derogatory comments and harsh policies toward Latinos, i.e. the administration's policy of separating immigrant families at the U.S.-Mexico border. What a slap in the face as Trump constantly vilifies Goya’s customer base.
Some consumers have vowed to eliminate these products from their shelves as other protest with videos of Goya products being dumped out or donated. Honestly, donation is too good for this product given the state of affairs.
Goya needs to join the ranks of others like Under Armour who said, “Trump was an asset to the Country”, but had to back step as consumer voiced their disdain. Also, Equinox and SoulCycle suffered backlash over a Trump fundraiser while Intel, Walmart, Johnson & Johnson, public condemned Trumps’s remarks regarding the white nationalist violence in Charlottesville, VA, in 2017.
Arizona and Florida Latino voters, don’t be fool by verbal wordage and empty promises as Trump seeks your vote. He had in the past refereed to Mexicans as “rapists’ and rallied against immigrants entering the United States illegally. “When someone shows you who they are believe them.” Maya Angelou

Goya had done much with their community service, March and April, Goya donated more than 300,000 pound of food or about 270,000 meals to food banks, and other organisations as part of the pandemic relief effort and 20,000 protective masks, thousands of pounds of food for Bronx and Harlem families affected by Covid-19, and gave food to Queens public schools.
In conclusion, this was an invitation that should not have happened. Timing is everything. If you put your hand in a dog’s mouth, not knowing the dog, you just might get bitten. No matter what, everyone make your vote count and demand accountability before hand, later is too late.
