How Ego can be used for Self Improvement
Use it to overcome bad habits

Ego.
Man’s greatest enemy.
First, let’s recall what ego actually stands for.
“EGO is your idea or opinion of yourself, especially your feeling of importance”
We usually say “I hate that person, he has a lot of ego”. In fact, every person out there has ego. Should I hate everyone? Should I be a Misanthrope?
By the definition, the ego is not evil. Is my opinion of myself bad? It’s us, the humans who have shaped it into misery. We have never known how to use it wisely?
How about if I say, Ego if used right can demolish all your evil and bad habits. It can shape you in the best form of yourself. You can attain the utmost peace and joy in your life. Too good to be true?
Nah.
It’s possible, with just a flick of perception.
How Common People Perceive Ego
Ego is associated with bad qualities, which are found in not so good people.
If we expect someone to perform something and he or she does the opposite keeping themselves in mind, giving themselves more importance, then for us their image is ruined and they are considered to have EGO.
Let’s take some examples —
- Bart was stuck in traffic. He just wanted his vehicle to move! Enraged at the situation, Bart pulled his car onto the shoulder and sped forward, not caring that he was clipping people’s side mirrors as he tried to get ahead of the cars in front of him.
- Inline at the salad bar, Amy was so hungry that she shoved a handful of croutons in her mouth as she waited for the line to move.
People take action remembering and showering importance to oneself. They don’t put effort to think from another person’s perspectives.
They do everything to boost their Ego, even if it means stabbing everyone from the back. Actions like these, have shaped the ego as an evil soul.
A surprising fact — We all have egos.
It’s upon us in which situations, we tend to use it. Weak, average people boost it to hide their insecurities, to showcase their narrow mind, and are always self-centered.
Ego: The Savior
We all have certain bad habits, which we can’t overcome regardless of any motivational video. We just can’t help. It’s okay. I had been there. I know how it felt.
The only way under high heaven to defeat your bad habits without any external help — “challenge yourself”.
The Ego that you showcase to feel superior to others, use it to challenge yourself to change for the better.
I had a bad habit of distraction. I easily get distracted from my work. I lose focus. Tried everything, every advice on this planet, but couldn't achieve success.
I started challenging myself. I made fun of myself, that I can’t achieve focus in my work ever. I can’t achieve great heights in life. I challenged my Ego. From then, every time I started getting distracted, my Ego spoke to me. Compelled me to sit down and write more. I gave all my powers to Ego, to make me a better person.
Keep in mind, I ain’t forcing myself. I am happy how ego is directing me to fight against bad habits.
Your takeaway
Nothing can change you unless you are willing to change yourself.
Change comes from within, not by any external force. Challenge yourself every time you wish to move upward on the stairs of success. Challenge yourself to be a better person for yourself. Don’t misinterpret changing yourself to be a person other people want.
It’s your life. Don’t portray Ego to feel superior. Always be grounded. Think from another person’s viewpoint. Use Ego to challenge yourself. Enhance yourself.
