Trigger Warning: Psychological exploration and personal growth — everything here is a reflection of self only. If you are triggered, please stop reading immediately. Always put your own mental health first!

Have you ever been astounded at someone else’s perception of you and wondered, ‘how the hell did that come up with that’? We don’t know what we don’t know. All we can do is push the boundaries of the known and unknown — this is growth. But, most of us see others through what we already know we know and assume they know the same. Call it judgment, assumption, presumption, perception… The change starts within.

This is day 48 of the 50 Questions for Deep Self-Reflection challenge from Know Thyself Heal Thyself created by Diana C.

DAY FORTY-EIGHT: How can a quiet communion with the nature help you discover deep spiritual truths?

Before we begin…

It’s been a hot minute since I posted one of these, but in my defense, I had an emergency operation under general so have been recovering. I think that’s a fair excuse. I wonder how it will relate to today’s question.

How can quiet communion with the nature help you discover deep spiritual truths?

Alright, let’s unpack the language

Communion

The simplest definition from dictionary.com (external link) is:

{an} interchange or sharing of thoughts or emotions

My perception of that is a meditative state where you’re not blocking the natural flow of ideas from the collective consciousness.

The nature

Now, it’d be easy to say maybe this was a typo and that “the” was not meant to be there, but I’m going to choose to believe that it was added with volition just to personally mess with my own brain so that I can get the most out of this question. So, the nature of what? The nature of self? Oh! Well, I’ll stop there, because that’s the first thing that came to mind. And if I want to consider my own perception of quiet communion, then I have to go with that definition.

Discover

For me, to discover is to learn and grow. It’s uncovering what I didn’t know and expanding my knowledge and understanding.

Spiritual truths

Dictionary.com defines spirituality as (external link):

incorporeal or immaterial nature.

What if we consider deep spiritual truths to be the understanding of that allowance of the flow of information?

My perception of the question

How can allowing the flow of self, help me to grow and embrace all that is available to me?

Now that I’ve defined and rephrased the question, this feels very circular, but that makes a whole lot of sense to me. I feel that in that quiet communion with the nature of self and the exploration of who I am at my core, I connect deeper with my own truth and then I’m able to open to more of the same. That’s pretty cool.

And yes, it does connect back to my hospital stay

I’ll share the ‘hospital story’ in another post but it’s sufficient to say that I reached a point where I gave up. I gave up trying to control how other people saw me or thought of me.

Long story short: Due to my physicality, age, and perceived gender, I was presumed to be stupid and weak and was treated as such. I was often met with surprise when I proved myself to be neither. But the point at which I gave up was when I realized that it had nothing to do with me and everything to do with the self-mirroring of those around me. They perceived sameness and therefore judged me as they would judge themselves. And that’s when I thought:

“Oh, you’re not seeing me as me, you’re seeing me as you see yourselves. It’s really sad that you see yourselves that way.”

In that moment, I became more aware of self and my own growth. I was flooded with pride for everything I’ve achieved and done for self. It was in that single moment of letting go and releasing that I stopped taking on the pain of others and it was such a relief.

Back to the question

How can a quiet communion with the nature help you discover deep spiritual truths?

  • By allowing self-reflection in the absence of expectation
  • By coming into self and associating and loving self completely
  • By recognizing the difference between the inner self and projection
  • Most importantly, by allowing a circuit of continuous growth

We are all on our own path. We may share a moment, a stone on the path, but even in that moment, our perceptions vary. It’s very human to forget that our experiences belong to no one else. That our beliefs belong to no one else. We are unique and therefore, to look at others and to let their thoughts or opinions matter enough to step off your own path and onto theirs, is to deny everything you’ve done and yourself.
