How A Terrible Student Learned To Love Education
“Society as a whole must become a huge school.” Che Guevara
I hated school, but I love to learn.
I read and watch videos to educate myself every day. It’s fun for me because I’m learning about things I find interesting.
Self-education is, in my opinion, necessary to be a fully functioning adult.
There are plenty of people who go through life not learning or thinking about things around them.
They take in only the information that matches what they already believe and use that to reinforce their beliefs.
There is an endless amount of information in the world, which is another reason we need to educate ourselves.
The more news and fake news that is out there the harder it is to decipher between the two.
When we are educating ourselves regularly, from a variety of sources, our ability to distinguish between truth and lie becomes easier.
Listening to multiple sides of an argument is also part of self-education.
You might think someone is wrong, and after hearing what they have to say you still think they are wrong, that’s ok.
The important part is listening and thinking about what others say, and looking at things from a different perspective. The ability to consider multiple perspectives, and accept or dismiss them, is the only way to make honest rational decisions.
This skill is even more important in our hyper-polarized world.
