House of Mystery
Pirates and parrots and cats
This house (above) is all on its own at the end of a street. It’s also set back from the road. To its right as we look at the pic, there is a street, and there is nothing behind it. That is, it appears completely independent of its surroundings.
The path to its front door is shrouded in plants trying to keep its secrets.
It really needs to star in a house-of-mystery film. PupperJack and I tiptoe past it hoping it won’t see us (whilst also wishing it was our house).

This garden smells of cider and there are lots of wasps having a holiday in there. You can see why.
PupperJack and I hastily crossed the road before we disturbed the buzzing horde.

Every now and then I buy a variegated pittosporum (above left). They never seem to prosper and I’m left with another twig in a pot. I won’t be buying any more — I’ll just go and stare enviously at this lush hedge of it.
A whole hedge of variegated pittosporum!
The plant (above right) has made a great effort at getting out of that garden! How did it get up there? I thought it might be the aptly named monkey flower, but now I’m not so sure.

PupperJack was very keen to take this overgrown courgette home.
He was gravely disappointed in me for leaving it behind …

Today — 19th September — is ‘Talk Like a Pirate Day’ — but — did you know that it’s also ‘National Meow Like a Pirate Day’?
Avast me Kitty Hearties! It’s a good day!

Coming back from this morning’s amble, a rainbow decided to come along and bless this street.
This has been a hard week for too many people so I made special note of the rainbow, but also of this classic poem (below). It felt suitable and pairs up with my pic called ‘Sun follows rain’.

‘Falls the Rain’ by Ruby Archer
Dully falls the steady rain. Broken drops in line oblique Fling themselves across the pane — Of shattered dreams they sadly speak.
Ah me, that life should be so drear, And all the world should moan in pain; For every rain-drop falls a tear As hopelessly as falls the rain.
But let the tears like rain sink down To bring the roots of life their drink, To give the grasses green for brown, And make life’s faded roses pink.
And let them cleanse life’s leaves of dust And wash away each blight or bane, All stains of time, the mould, the must, — Then full of promise falls the rain.

Here’s PupperJack sending special thoughts to all who might like them.
