Avast me kitties! 19th September has been ‘Talk Like a Pirate Day’ since 1995. Since 2015, it has also been ‘National Meow Like a Pirate Day’.

Cats deserve the recognition given that pirates are rarely seen catless. Cats were seen as creatures of good luck who would keep bad spirits, and rats, at bay.

So 19th September celebrates the predatory, swashbuckling nature of fluffy animal and not-so-fluffy human, too.

It’s a good day to adopt a homeless cat. Jus’ sayin’

Make sure there is plenty of catnip in your treasure chest or you might have a meowtiny on your hands, and if PugwashPuss loses his eyepatch he’s probably batted it under the fridge.

Don’t worry if PugwashPuss abandons ship. He’ll want to come back aboard in no time. And then off-board. And then on-board. And then …
