Holding Onto Love
Trying to stay in love even when the love starts to fade away
We met
We fell in love
We loved one another
I hold onto that love
How This Poem Came to Be
I woke up this morning and thought about love and what often happens when it visits the lives of the people closest to me.
First I hear of their “first meeting”, and all the excitement that moment brings.
Then next I hear of the on-going exciting weekends, events, and moments. Perhaps they are falling in love?
Next, I hear my friend share with me that they are “falling in love”. I am so excited for them both.
Unfortunately more times then not I hear that love is more one-sided, not reciprocated as often. “Perhaps they don’t love me yet”, or “Not as much” I may hear from my friend.
I then hear the pain in my friends' voice on the phone as they try to hold onto the other. Try to hold onto the love. I try to hold on with them, but as a friend, I can only do so much.
The love has passed, but my friend may choose to not let it go just yet. There is pain, but only a one-sided pain.
I feel bad for my friend. It wasn’t my love that was lost, but it was love just the same.
