POETRY — A HAIKU
Love Is My Answer
When my feelings started with just one look
L - When I look at you
L - Yes I like you
L - Yes I do love you
I woke up this morning and I was unsure of what I might write, or even if I would write today. As a sometimes writer that happens pretty often, but for me, I just “roll with the flow” as they say.
As I looked about to see if something inspired me, I checked out the images on Medium for inspiration. And after some failed attempts, I had an idea.
I used the same method that I often use on the social media platform Facebook when I am looking for just the right gif to use to honor friends Birthdays.
Yes, I am one of those people who makes sure to wish each of my Facebook friends “Happy Birthday”. I do this every day, well in case someone else doesn’t.
On Facebook, I will type “birthday” then a random letter of the alphabet to see what types of gifs pop up.
You will be amazed at the options of gifs that will come up using this method. Being someone who doesn’t like to use the same gif in succession, it often works well for me.
Yes, I realize that no one would know that I used the same gif on the same day for the same groups of friends' birthday. I realize that.
Yet I would know and that it is just not right to me. It would be like giving each friend the same gift. That wouldn’t feel right either.
So this morning I tried the same process to find an inspiring image to write about. I just picked a random letter out of thin air and typed it into the search, and I chose the letter “L” today.
As soon as I saw this image, the one above, I knew what I would write about this morning.
One emotion, one feeling, and one of the if not the strongest emotions we experience as human beings. Look, like, and love.
I have become quite fond of the haiku method of poetry and I felt the letter “l” and my thoughts coming to me over it made it well suited for my writing today.
I hope that you read the poem slowly, perhaps even twice.
Think back to the first time you saw someone, perhaps your partner or significant other. Remember when you looked at them that first time?
Then you got to know them. You realized that you actually liked them. You liked how they acted, what they said, what they felt, and how you felt when with them.
You woke up one morning, or perhaps when you put the key into the lock coming home from a “date”, and you realized that you were in love with them.
That first awakening to that love. The love that persists for you even today. Perhaps love that has since been lost.
The letter “L” is pretty powerful, isn’t it?
Now I guess I know myself why it jumped off the screen at me today, and into my thoughts. Let’s hope it finds you today too!
Another Short Poem That You Might Enjoy Today
I wrote this during our quarantine. Even today it still resonates in my thoughts, and how I feel like we have lost these for far too long.
I hope that you enjoy reading it.
