When I started writing in high school, I mainly wrote poetry.
I lived on Bainbridge Island in Seattle, USA when I was 18 years old and I did a poetry short course.
I had thought that it would be for beginners like me and ended up spending time with famous poets from Seattle.
It was so funny because we would all meet in this wooden cabin on the island. There was a little stovetop where we boiled our peppermint tea and someone would bring biscuits.
We then each had to share our poems and then we discussed them.
The other poets would ask me to write in Afrikaans, my first language and they would love it when I read it, even though they understood nothing.
I started writing poems again on Medium. I hope you enjoy the collection.
