Hi Notez: 3/5/24

I got my ass kicked this morning. That treadmill beat me down like I stole something from it. I wasn’t ready to be tested like this only one day after switching up my workout routine. And I damn sure didn’t know introducing calisthenics into my routine would take this much of a toll on me. I’m getting tired just thinking about it.

I thought I’d be upset, embarrassed, and yes even ashamed of my performance on the treadmill this morning. I must admit, for a little while, I was. I held the bars for most of the last 10 minutes and accidentally hit the emergency stop two times. But to tell the truth, I’m glad I didn’t quit or stop, even when I felt like I was gonna vomit. Yes, it got there, and it got there quick.

After going through hell, I realized something. I am a beginner…again. Challenged to the core, with my quitting mind front and center, I task myself to finish, to see this thing through. It’s been a long time since I’ve been in this position, but I’m beginning to feel the desire and drive to be better. In this short time, the feeling of being “back at square one” has managed to spark my desire to do better in other areas of my life. Like drinking a gallon of water every day, staying consistent in achieving my daily goals, and going to bed at a specified time.

I should mention, I’m still in the thralls of learning to be consistent in these endeavors but if I continue to give it my best and take it one day at a time, I will get there.

Today’s lesson for me is about learning how to fail forward. No matter how good or bad I perform, the only way to get better is to show up again, and again, and again. So on my next running day, that treadmill won’t see it coming but I’m gonna crush it! The growth path is not linear. Better is always there for those who reach for it.

Today’s Hi Note,

Remember, progress often comes through pushing past our comfort zone and learning from our experiences. Keep pushing forward, for the path of growth is paved with resilience and the willingness to fail forward.
