He’s Behind Bars at Last!

Salvia Hot Lips, ring-tailed lemurs

I put Jack inside a guinea pig run (an empty one) for a few moments while I was fixing a hole in the hedge.

He immediately adopted the pose of: ‘Help! I’m-a-starved-prisoner. Rescue meeeee…!’

He does it very well. Anyone’s heart would be wrung; they would instantly drop everything to race to his side.

I’d nipped inside for a second and when I came back out again, I didn’t immediately see him. There are a lot of dog thefts going on at the moment. I never let him out of my sight, even in his own garden.

Also, next door’s garden hosts a buffet of rabbits and guinea pigs — Dog knows what it would do to neighbourly relations if Jack got in there …

Anyway, then he moved, I saw him — and I was so relieved my hair nearly fell out.

Which was when I put him in this cage while I checked the hole in the hedge.

These flowers are blooming all over the neighbourhood — they make quite the stunning statement. It’s easy to see why they’re called ‘Hot Lips’. They’re a salvia.

I love the differing patterns and textures of these plants in a couple of the pots outside the front of my house.

My phone’s picture library fell open on this day two years ago which is why I know that I was at The Wild Place watching the ring-tailed lemurs, wondering what they were thinking, as they watched me watching them.

It’s difficult to remember the world as it was back then, pre-covid19.

I’m particularly looking forward to going back to the The Wild Place, and to the University of Bristol Botanic Garden, especially to see the ‘meat-eaters of the plant world’, and the Giant Water Lilies of the Amazon Rainforest:

These plants are so fascinating and so stunning! And they are fairy-tale enough they can make you think how great it would be to hibernate on a water lily leaf until all the horrible stuff is over.

In the meantime, 13th September is ‘National Kids Take Over the Kitchen Day’.

Yes, that sounds like a good idea …

Last year, Dennett started the Photo-a-Day Challenge to help combat the pandemic blues. She takes photos every day and chooses the best ones, adding a one-word descriptor, sometimes some narrative, to share her week with us.
