You need to treat Medium like a real job to be successful.

There are many stories out there with influencers claiming to earn thousands of dollars each month with their side gig. While that may be true for some people, we often don’t realize that it takes real work and effort to get that kind of income.

Most side hustles require much more time and energy than people expect.

I Spend An Astonishing 25.5 Hours On Medium Each Week

Let’s say you got a part-time job at the neighbourhood grocery store. Would you just randomly show up to work? Of course not. To be successful on Medium, you need to treat it the same as a real job. That means you show up consistently and be reliable. You complete all the tasks that are required of you before you end your work day. On Medium, that means you post stories and engage. If you are an editor, than you edit as well. There’s no other way.

You may hear of successful F4F stories or about writers who hit the jackpot with a few viral stories. These examples are not representative. Here’s a real-life example.

In August, I made over $100 to reach the top percentage of earners on Medium. I also became Top Writer in Travel, Ideas, and Inspiration.

These achievements did not happen overnight.

It took 9 months of showing up every day on Medium.
