Here’s a Story About ChatGPT as This is What Medium Wants
Even better, I barely wrote any of it

Disclaimer: My readers are disappearing like farts in the wind, so if anyone here steps out of line and reads this, you may feel a distinct chill in the ole stats area. That said, for those brave souls who forge ahead, thank you.
So, after talking about this with some of my Medium friends and perusing stories by other writers, I decided to give the much overhyped ChatGPT a go.
I didn’t feed it any story titles, rather, I asked a question near and dear to my crusty heart: “What are some unique ways to sell my screenplay?”
Because, every now and then, I let optimism creep into my brain pan, I crossed my fingers and hoped for at least one nugget. The following is what I received:
Selling a screenplay can be a challenging task, and it often requires thinking outside the box. Here are some unique ways to sell your screenplay:
Create a visual pitch: Instead of sending a traditional pitch letter, create a visually stunning pitch that includes artwork, storyboards, and other visual aids. This can help potential buyers better understand your vision and increase their interest in your screenplay.
Host a table read: Invite actors and industry professionals to a table read of your screenplay. This will allow them to experience your story firsthand and can help generate buzz for your script.
Attend film festivals: Attend film festivals and network with industry professionals. This can be a great way to get your screenplay in front of the right people and potentially make a sale.
Create a book: Turn your screenplay into a book and self-publish it. This can help you gain a following and generate interest in your story.
Produce a short film: If you have the means, produce a short film based on your screenplay. This can help potential buyers see your vision in action and can also serve as a proof of concept for a feature film. (Geez, Chat’s grammar sucks!)
Leverage social media: Use social media platforms to share your screenplay and generate buzz. You can also use targeted ads to reach industry professionals and potential buyers.
Host a staged reading: Organize a staged reading of your screenplay and invite industry professionals to attend. This can help generate interest and potentially lead to a sale.
Remember, selling a screenplay takes time, effort, and persistence. Be willing to try different approaches and never give up on your dreams.
My takeaway? Nothing new here. I was already well aware of every single one of these “tactics.” I would have been just as enlightened with a “Hey, Siri.” What’s more, I would have loved additional ideas that don’t include having the money to take them to fruition. It costs money to travel to film festivals. It costs money to “use” targeted ads. It costs money to have “industry professionals” participate in a table read.
Yeah. I’m familiar with it all.
With that said, at least ChatGPT displayed a semblance of “heart” by spitting out, “never give up on your dreams.”
Yeah. Thanks for that.
This is what we’ve come to, guys. If there were any misconceptions about how real writers are regarded, here, look at your plunging stats and tell me I’m wrong. Or better yet, ask ChatGPT. It knows everything.
