Happy World Book Day

Some stories about reading and literature for my fellow bookworms

Happy World Book Day!

A collection of my stories about reading and literature for my fellow bookworms

May 2022 update:

I’m went camping for a few days and definitely packed more books than clothing or food!

I’m really enjoyed spending a few days outside, as well as spending lots of time reading outside, so I shared a few of my favourites from this year so far.

My recent book-related story discusses how micro-aggressions are addressed in a fantasy-fiction series.

This particular book is Rule of Wolves, by Leigh Bardugo, the author of the Shadow and Bone trilogy and the Six of Crows duology.

I don’t normally read fantasy, but someone recommended Six of Crows to me and I fell in love with the Grishaverse. I also wrote about how the Grisha in the King of Scars are a lot like Neurodivergent people.

I wrote about another story in which fiction reflects reality, Circe by Madeline Miller.

This book is based on greek mythology. Miller does a great job of showing how family dysfunction and the challenges of parenting are universal struggles.

I tend to find an author I really enjoy and proceed to read everything they’ve ever written, as was the case with Amor Towles. I bought The Gentleman in Moscow for my husband for Xmas and then read it after he was finished. I was hooked.

I then read Rules of Civility and The Lincoln Highway. A Gentleman in Moscow remains by favourite, but a particular character in The Lincoln Highway inspired me to write in his defense:

For even more great reads, here were my favourite fiction novels of 2021:
