Celebrating Women’s Entrepreneurship Day
Celebrating women* — people — in business

November 19, 2023 is Women’s Entrepreneurship Day
I share a collection of my most popular articles related to entrepreneurship and women in business.
*Women has an asterisk because gender is a social construct. My use of the term “women” encompasses cis-women, trans women, non-binary folks, as well as any and all marginalized genders and non-conforming gender presentations.
Nobody’s more badass than folks who have fought against bigotry, systemic inequity, oppression, and marginalization in order to become successful entrepreneurs.
And by successful I mean you exist and are doing something meaningful to you. ❤
ADHD Traits Of Successful Entrepreneurs
Research shows us where ADHD traits and successful entrepreneurship overlap.
As a successful entrepreneur since 2010, I explore ADHD traits that can contribute to being a successful business owner, while pointing out some potential risks and how to avoid them.
Discovering My Neurodivergence Helped Me Rediscover My Passion
I returned to a career I never thought I’d love again.
From very young, I knew I wanted to be a social worker or a psychologist. I was determined and driven, and I never doubted what or who I wanted to become.
Writing For Love And Money
An opportunity to pursue our passion and share our knowledge.
I’ve come to learn that I can write to my strengths and interests, and I don’t have to be a top writer to make a difference in the lives of others — and hopefully make a few dollars in the process, of course.
Medium Needs To Pay Its Writers More
Medium Needs To Pay Its Writers More: We make this platform what it is, but do not reap the benefits of our hard work.
I am grateful for this community and to Medium for providing this venue for all of us to share our writing. I have learned a lot over the past eight or so months I’ve been reading and writing here, and I plan to continue doing so, but I have concerns.
Celebrating Women
March 8th is international women’s day, but… Since gender is a social construct anyway, I’m celebrating women, non-binary people, trans women, and neurodivergent folks.
Hire Skilled Workers, Not Skilled Interviewees
Stop rating candidates based on criteria unrelated to their prospective roles.
Every company’s interview process will be different, depending on their organization, and the type of work they do. However, if you look up sample interview forms, almost all of them have one thing in common.
I Never Thought I’d Want To Be An Online Content Creator
I love to write, but I’m really starting to enjoy creating content for social media as well. I was anti social media (also just anti-social) for a long time.
I’ve always had social media accounts, just the basics, for keeping in touch with friends and family after we moved from Ontario to Manitoba 16 years ago.
Professionalism Is Performative
How professionalism is performative, and why I let my ND quirks loose when I’m working with clients. I’m capable of masking to the point of nearly “passing” as a slightly quirky, fidgety neurotypical.
I could put on my professional mask and look much like every other coach, tutor, therapist, or advocate my clients have met before. Except those professionals and clinicians haven’t always been helpful, otherwise this prospective client wouldn’t be reaching out to me.
Spotting Neurodiversity As A Marketing Term
Differentiating between aligning with the neurodiversity paradigm versus using it as a meaningless catch phrase.
Since the Neurodiversity movement has become more widely known, I’ve noticed some organizations have co-opted the language as a form of marketing.
What I Learned Over Two Years of Writing Full Time
I only kinda-sorta missed my two year anniversary of writing on Medium. Last year I was a full week late, this year I’m only a day late, so… y’know. Progress.
I share what I’ve learned in two years, summed up in my top four writing tips, as well as a list of my 10 most popular articles in 2022.
I’m In A Toxic Relationship With My Favourite Writing Platform
Medium is becoming another Multi-Level Marketing scheme and I’m over it.
I’ve been writing on Medium for about 2 1/2 years.
Medium has changed its algorithm (again), and many writers (including myself) are unhappy.
