Great Stories Worth Reading on Self-Love
A Highly Recommended curation
How is it that the human condition is to feel utterly alone and off track when so many of us (dare I say every single one of us) are called to get back on track…no not the dogmatic “my way is the only way track” that religion and society at large insist we stay on…but the track of Self!
We are all aligned with something Divine, whatever you want to call it. We can deny it, duck it, avoid it, chuck it, but it keeps calling.
These Medium writers are listening to the call and they want to share their stories of encouragement with you. I want to share what they’re sharing!!
CHARLiiE had it all — the car, the education, the career, the living space. She should be happier than this, she thought. But she was depressed.
In her article, Embracing and Living Your TRUTH! (links at the end), CHARLiiE shares how and why she decided to become a self-proclaimed Ambassador of Truth, and what I would call an Ambassador of Self-Love for herself and for everyone.
What hit her was the realization that she was living into a picture of a life that society had given her, in her words “retiring from a job, working a traditional 9 to 5, or getting married and having a family,” and it hadn’t occurred to her that she might want something else. She made the drastically anti-status quo decision to get aligned with her own desires.
Her article is an inspiration for those looking for their authentic path. She’s new on Medium, but a promising voice of encouragement. I hope to get to know her better through her writing and engagement.

Barbara J. Martin writes in Do You Know Who You Are?, “This is going to sound strange, but I always knew who I was. My problem was trying to be me in a world that didn’t want me to be me.”
She talks about “shaking off the fake” like a dog shakes off water after emerging from the lake. Can you picture it?
Barbara is a committed Medium writer and thoughtfully engages with comments on her articles and other Medium writers.
She lives off-grid, in a cabin by the sea with her two dogs. Sounds idyllic to me!

𝓓𝓲𝓪𝓷𝓪 𝓒 writes with vulnerability about her sense of loneliness and how limited beliefs kept her from making deep connections in her article It Turns Out People Actually Want To Be My Friend.
It’s telling that she’s the publisher of Know Thyself, Heal Thyself and she has thousands of Medium followers. She is on the journey of healing and openly admits it.
Her openness is refreshing in a world of uptight, buttoned-down, closed-up personas who act like they have it all together. My guess is that more of us feel like she does than not. As for me, I felt as if she was telling part of my story.

Before you scroll for the articles — and I hope you do — I want to say how I decide to feature writers and articles on Highly Recommended. As I come across articles in my feed from the people I follow — committed writers who play well with others on Medium — that grab me by the heartstrings, I make note of a category they might fall into that makes sense for a Highly Recommended curation. This is a personal “boost” and has nothing to do with Medium’s Boost program. In the spirit of good networking, I give my nods to uplifting, funny, and thoughtful articles worth reading, and the writers and publications worth following. Of course, the decision is yours.
Please follow Highly Recommended if you are inspired by JoJo M’s vision for a publication that encourages sharing what moves us! If you want to contribute, check out the submission guidelines.
Runa Heilung is the founder of Old Soul Alchemy. She uses imagery and imagination in meditative formats for healing, illumination, and transformation. ♥ Thank you for reading and following. Thoughtful comments and conversation starters are appreciated! ♥
CHARLiiE’s article. You don’t have to accept being “normal.”
Barbara’s article. I just love the mannequin thumbnail. It says a lot!
Diana’s article. How do you define friendship?
And….before you go, here’s my curation of 5 of my favorite love songs — from self-love to global love, published in Middle-Pause.
