First Major Chinese City Has Been Closed
Millions more have joined the quarantine list in China

If you haven’t yet heard about the new strain of coronavirus that started in China and is spreading across Asia, click here to be fully updated before reading the newest update.
Starting tonight (January 25th 2020), Chongqing will officially be closed and will join the 6 other cities on the Chinese travel ban list. This means that if you’re in Chongqing or several of its surrounding districts, you will be unable to leave until the travel ban has been lifted.
With its enormous population of 30 million people, Chongqing is the first major Chinese city to join the 6 other current cities on the travel ban list.
The updated travel list for today now includes -
- Chongqing **Population 30 million**
- Wuhan (where it all started) **Population 11 million**
- Huanggang **Population 7.5 million**
- Ezhou **Population 1 million**
- Zhijiang **Population half a million**
- Chibi **Population half a million**
- Xiantao **Population 1.2 million**
- Qianjiang **Population 1.1 million**
It’s expected that this list will lengthen quickly, with more cities yet to be announced for travel bans.
Travel Ban Implications

Before implementing the travel ban, the infected people living in Wuhan (where the infection began) spread across China looking for hospitals that could admit them.
The travel ban was implemented soon after in an effort to curb further spreading of the virus.
This left a problem however as more people have been infected in Wuhan, and existing hospitals are beyond capacity and can’t treat them.
Without an antibiotic that can treat this new strain of virus, care for those who have become infected has been slow and very time consuming. Hospital beds that are filled won’t become vacant until a form of treatment can be engineered.
To deal with the pressure on existing hospitals, a new hospital is being built in Wuhan and will be completed in 6 days. It’s being built from prefabricated buildings according to Business Insider, and will be operational on February 3rd.
This hospital aims to replicate the success of Xiaotangshan Hospital in Beijing which was built to treat those infected by SARS in 2003. This hospital was completed in 7 days and treated 14% of those infected with the virus.
Local authorities have warned that the pandemic will get worse before it gets better, so if you’re not in Asia right now; cancel any plans you have to come.
