Opinions

  • The author suggests that the protagonist's current situation with the prisoner is complex and morally ambiguous, as indicated by the mixed feelings of hunger and disgust.
  • The flashback to the protagonist's childhood implies a nostalgic longing for simpler times when conflicts were resolved through play-fighting, not life-or-death decisions.
  • The inclusion of a "choose your own" adventure element indicates the author's desire for reader engagement and interactivity, emphasizing the importance of audience participation in shaping the narrative.
  • The author's invitation to contribute to the story reflects an open and collaborative approach to storytelling, valuing community input.
  • The promotional elements at the end of the content, such as asking for claps and follows, suggest the author's interest in building a readership and potentially monetizing their work through the Medium platform.

“Right.” The prisoner curls his lips into a smirk. “Should have kept it alive. They’re an excellent source of protein.”

Something gnaws at your stomach, an indistinguishable combination of hunger and disgust.

Your vision blurs, and scenes from your childhood return in fragments. The crisp autumn air fills your lungs as you swing the wooden sword against Zaroph, pretending to be swashbuckling pirates.

Back when fighting was a game.

He defeats you and says —

Fail, and die.

Lorenzo’s voice is like a thunderclap, reverberating through your thoughts. You grip the dagger, and your knuckles crack, echoing around you.
