Writing Prompt: Inclusive Education

What does inclusive education mean to you?

Created by author

It’s been a while...

I haven’t done a writing prompt in a very long time (it’s been one full year!). Honestly I’ve just been too busy, and haven’t had the mental bandwidth, to screen and edit article submissions.

Something I am very passionate about is actual inclusive education, and I’ve written quite a few articles on the subject. February is inclusive education month in Canada and frankly, we’ve done a terrible job of it.

I want to bring together diverse perspectives and experiences to contribute to increasing awareness about exclusion and seclusion in public education.

Own voices

I particularly want to highlight the experiences and perspectives of marginalized groups. If you’re a neurodivergent or disabled student — any kind of disability or difference which impacts your schooling — I particularly want to share what inclusive education means to you.

What, if anything, has been done well? What has gone wrong? What do you need to feel properly and genuinely included in your school community?

Students of any age and stage are welcome.

Parents of neurodivergent and disabled students are absolutely welcome to submit. Please ensure your writing is centred around the experiences of your child, and other disabled and neurodivergent student, not on the parent experience.

As always, please review our submission guidelines and do a thorough proofread and edit before you submit.

Thank you!
